BHDC 'Washingtonian' File:

Remember last year when we muddied the waters, unveiling that the Washingtonian’s editor-at-large Garrett Graff was leaving FishbowlDC?

After we spoiled his surprise, he announced that he was indeed exiting stage right to pen a book for publication by Farrar, Straus, and Giroux titled “The First Campaign: Democrats, The Internet, & The Future of American Politics,” that would examine “the impact of technology and globalization in politics” and focus “on Mark Warner, the former Virginia governor, as the first presidential candidate to come out of the dot com era.”

Graff must have been crying today when Warner announced his decision not to run because he “wants to spend more time with his family.”

Fuck. That’s going to make for a pretty boring middle of the book, now isn’t it:

Chapter 6, January 1, 2007: Today, while Hillary Clinton, John Kerry and John Edwards threw jabs at each other, battling for the Democratic nomination, Warner made sweet love to his wife, Lisa Collis.

Chapter 7, January 12, 2007: Warner’s daughter, Eliza, kissed a boy today. And liked it. She really liked it.

Chapter 8, January 15, 2007: Warner has grown tired of me following him and his family, so we’ll have to cut this short.

We kid, of course, but are exceptionally curious how Graff will handle this situation. If you’re reading this Garrett, we’ve got Russ Feingold’s number. And we hear he toils on the net sometimes. It could work.

We couldn’t help but notice that FishbowlDC wasn’t mentioned in Harry Jaffe’s recent article on an apparent DC gossip war.

Not up to par, we wondered?

A conflict of interest since Garrett Graff, the editor-at-large of the Washingtonian, used to own the bowl (and Jaffe works for the Washingtonian and his work is featured in Gavin’s Examiner)?

Nope and nope.

“Fishbowl is more narrowly focused on the media, while the others range to a broader scene,” explains Jaffe. “Gavin does an terrific job. No question.”

Now, let’s not say that nothing nice was ever said about Patty on this blog again.

David Shuster’s shenanigans are so last year.

At one of this weekend’s Washington Correspondents’ Dinner prom after-parties, we hear that lips were loose and more than fancy drinks were flowing. As guests deep throated one cocktail after another, including Cheney Shots and Barak O’Bombers, an interesting tidbit emerged from more than one source: Our beloved Garrett M. Graff, editor of Fishbowl DC, will soon be leaving his post to pursue other opportunities.

Writing the daily media news blog has been getting to Graff for awhile, according to insiders. Over the last year, he pushed for hiring another writer for the site because his editor-at-large duties at Washingtonian Magazine were already keeping him quite busy. Said writer turned out to be Patrick Gavin, associate editorial page editor at the Washington Examiner, who’s now poised to inherit the fishy throne.

No one thinks Graff will be leaving the media world anytime soon. In fact, he’s said to be working on a book about former Virginia Gov. Mark Warner and his likely Presidential quest in 2008. He also has “other projects” in the works that will likely take him to new journalistic heights. As the first blogger admitted to cover a White House press briefing, Graff’s accustomed to climbing media mountains.

It’s expected that Mediabistro, which publishes FishbowlDC, will soon officially announce Graff’s decision and begin looking for someone to fill his shoes. We’re guessing that announcing this news first officially puts us out of the running. Oh well, we’ve got plenty of other fish in our barrel.

Over at FishbowlDC Garrett Graff chose Patrick W. Gavin to blog for the site when Garrett is too busy with his new editor job at The Washingtonian to read Howard Kurtz’ latest online chats. Gavin is an associate editorial page editor for the Washington Examiner. He worked previously at the Brookings Institution and once taught middle school history.

Here’s a rumor I heard about Garrett and Gavin: “They laugh alike, they walk alike, at times they even talk alike — you can lose your mind, when cousins are two of a kind.”

My question is: Who’s Cathy and who’s Patty?

I’d much rather read blogs from Patty. Cuz Patty loves to rock and roll, and a hot dog makes her lose control. But old Cathy adores a minuet, the Ballet Russes, and crepe suzette. Bleck.
