BHDC 'TIME' File:

“Pulled off the trail,” writes TIME’s Ana Marie Cox. “Twittering light until am confident I have something interesting to say. It will be light then, too.”

Could this action be in to response to her recent criticisms on her personal twitter blog of Tim Russert and Chris Matthews, stars of the NBC/MSNBC television networks to which she sometimes contributes? And did TIME really pull her off the campaign trail right before Super Tuesday!?

Remember when the young Hardball political pundit Ezra Klein made lewd comments about Tim Russert’s sex life just a few short days ago? And then promptly (and embarrassingly) shut down his Twitter Web page that featured those sharp words? Well, tonight TIME’s Ana Marie Cox, a frequent contributor to NBC shows featuring Joe Scarborough, posted this statement on her Twitter page regarding Russert:

Knowing Cox, she won’t be deleting anything, but one does have to wonder: if these people hate NBC so much, why do they attempt to desperately sell themselves on the company’s stations all too often?

Big Head DC has learned the New York Times plans to announce that conservative Bill Kristol will become a columnist for the newspaper in 2008. Kristol recently left TIME magazine.

But not quite:       swampland.PNG

The above post from TIME’s Washington bureau chief has been up at Swampland for two days and counting. Where are the editors?

David (Bradley) [owner of The Atlantic magazine] regularly offered me tea and scones every year or so for the better part of the last seven years, to find out what I was up to, and always suggested ways to go work for him,” Andrew Sullivan told Howie Kurtz today.

And it worked. Sullivan left for The Atlantic after a brief period blogging for TIME.

Shoot, where might he go for a donut and soda? Big Head DC???

dogdays2.jpgThe former Wonkette goddess (we never knew how much we’d miss her until we had our face shoved into Alex Pareene’s armpits for over a year) and current Time.com editor not only tells Big Head DC that she’s planning a sequel to her Dog Days novel, but she also invites all of you to see her give a reading at the DuPont Circle Olsson’s Books & Records on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

And, lovers, just in time for Valentine’s Day (she’s so savvy!), the book is now available in convenient, easy-to-carry paperback form along with a revised cover that does not promise the donkey-on-elephant love that the hardcover failed to deliver.

“Instead,” says Ana, “this cover promises a scene in which two people kiss on the Mall covered with candy hearts bearing my name while holding tiny American flags; this only happens in the sequel.”

Suckle away, kids. Go on, you have our permission.

Patrick Gavin, of FishbowldDC, decides to link to a New Yorker not-that-funny and oldish Christopher Hitchens profile all day long today – in a whopping five different posts thus far. Misses the part where Hitchens says that the most overrated things in life are “champagne, lobsters, anal sex and picnics.” Incredibly not hot. Yeah, Inky must be working out really well.

DC Bachelor becomes hung up on site visitors. It’s crossing the line into geek territory when a non-professional blogger writes posts tantamount to press releases re: visitor numbers. Yes, we all watch our numbers, but we don’t talk about the numbers. It’s like the eighth rule of blog club.

Kathryn pens a lengthy, boring missive about her realization that she tells lengthy, boring stories. Few disagree with her. One commenter, Web Cowgirl suggests that Kath might have ADD, due to her lack of getting-to-the-point skills. We can’t help but laugh.

Gavin
makes the list again by begging an almost-fired Tucker Carlson via a lame blog entry to have drinks with him tonight! You know, Halloween night. Tucker’s got kids, dude. He doesn’t want to drink, nor dance, with you. (P.S. We can lend you his number, if you need it.)

Wonkette’s Alex Pareene finds his site’s numbers still stagnant — despite an election cycle (you know, politics?). He replaced TIME’s Ana Marie Cox early this year and his co-editor David Lat left for his own professional blog recently. (Lat’s numbers, meanwhile, have been skyrocketing.)

Last week, we asked why TIME chose the cartoon at right to represent AMC alongside her online columns. Do they really think that she wears Sears sweaters? No word back from TIME yet, but the guy who doodled the graphic, the masterful Terry Colon, tells BHR on the record that he personally doesn’t think Cox is fat.

“That’s just the way I draw, everyone is short and squat,” he says. “I’m fairly sure the character designers at The Simpsons don’t think everyone is chinless or yellow.”

We also found out that Colon used to work with Cox at Suck.com (which may explain a lot about the less-than-flattering picture, since many past colleagues of the infamous blogger seem to harbor a bit of hate for her). Colon says those were the “days when she was a bit more… robust, shall we say.”

“And she did wear an orange turtleneck,” he reports. “I confess I haven’t seen her in years, so my memory might be failing me.”

The illustrator adds that if the public outcry and the opinion of TIME demands that he changes the art, he’s more than willing. “It’s not like I think the illo is the Mona Lisa or anything,” says he.
