BHDC 'Tammy Haddad' File:

WaPo follows up today on Tammy Haddad’s odd departure from MSNBC, and, just like the good producer she is, she’s spinning, spinning, spinning her move to create an political video Internet company as definitely better than working for Chris Matthews. “It’s going to change this election,” she said of her Internet plan. “All the 24-7 action of TV is coming to the Web. It’s going to be exactly the same as being in TV.”

Does anyone else detect a subtext within those jubilant quotes that Haddad sort of didn’t want to leave MSNBC?

haddad_tammy.jpgAs we told you this morning, Tammy Haddad, a top producer at MSNBC has been pushed out of the network. We had noted months ago that Chris Matthews and other network execs wanted her fired, but the network and Haddad put the spin out there that she was moving on from Matthews’ show in August to focus on producing larger MSNBC political projects. Interestingly, despite prevailing wisdom, outlets like Variety, the Hollywood Reporter and TVNewser took the bait. Which is a good idea, we guess, if you want to get invited to one of her lavish parties, but doesn’t make much journalistic sense, if you want to report the real story.

tammy.jpgThe NY Times is reporting that Tammy Haddad is leaving MSNBC and joining Newsweek. The move, which Haddad is claiming she’s happy about, comes just a couple of months after she was removed as the top producer on Chris MatthewsHardball. She and Matthews had a much publicized falling out over the summer after Matthews was caught again swearing on-air. After she left Hardball, she said she was happy to be taking on a managerial role over all political projects at MSNBC.

Today we’re hearing that her contentious relationship with Matthews and others at the network led to the move to lower profile position at Newsweek, which is a partner of MSNBC.

haddad.jpgBig Head DC first reported growing tensions between Chris Matthews and his executive producer Tammy Haddad back in June. Sources were telling us that he wanted her fired as gaffes in production became increasingly apparent on-air.

The respected political producer is now officially out of the job, MSNBC sources have told Big Head DC today. She’s apparently very angry. And Chris Matthews is now the lowest rated host on MSNBC primetime.

Tammy Haddad, MSNBC’s top DC political producer, may have been in hot water with Chris Matthews for her role in letting his latest S-bomb drop on live TV, but she’s still being held in high regard at the network.

“As far as I know, Tammy is still a very big deal here and in no peril at all,” says a source who’s very close to her at MSNBC. ”Truly, I haven’t heard anything to suggest otherwise.”

It’s pouring rain right now in Washington, and MSNBC still chose to go with the gimmicky outdoor “Hardball Plaza” set. Host Chris Matthews‘ hair is wetter than when he sweats in the heat, and the guests are distracted by little Hispanic guys struggling to hold massive umbrellas over their heads. Audience members are holding wet signs over their heads. It’s chaos, and looks totally unprofessional.  Why did producer Tammy Haddad let this happen?

Go inside, boob tubers!

(The second segment with actor Sam Waterson was pre-taped during the sunshine, adding to the disjointed feeling of the show.)

msnbc.PNGWe’ve waited all day for official word from the MSNBC studios regarding what’s happening in the aftermath of Chris Matthews big “shit” slip-up. That word hasn’t come yet, but our insider sources say that, with tensions high within the network, there may be more to this situation than a simple slap on the wrist for Matthews and/or his “Hardball” executive producer, Tammy Haddad.

“He was obviously criticizing the work of Brian Williams,” one NBC source told us. “New York management does not like its star anchor being mocked by one of our own while in the midst of an evening news rating battle.” Indeed, Matthews’ swear came just before he introduced a prepackaged interview Williams had previously recorded with NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Meanwhile, we’re told that Tim Russert, the lead DC anchor for the network, is privately happy that NBC management has gotten to see Matthews’ true colors shine.

“The two (Matthews and Russert) play nice in public, but all is not so merry behind-the scenes,” another NBC source told Big Head DC. In fact, Matthews was said to be “outraged” when he recently learned that a large portion of his staff would be moved to a different Capitol Hill location - one that houses Russert’s staff - later this year, in an effort to consolidate resources. “Chris, I’m sure, feels like he he lost a big battle,” our insider said.

The only public statement Matthews has made since apologizing on-air for using “that word” was a cryptic statement issued to The New York Post: “I use newsroom language too much!” he said.

Haddad, meanwhile, has not yet returned queries from us regarding her status at the network.

The Scooter Libby verdict. Who cares?

John McCain is crazy. So what!

The White House exploded? Meh.

When Michael Musto comes to town, as he did last night for a very special celebration of the publication of his new book “La Dolce Musto,” silly ole Washington politics just don’t seem to matter as much anymore.

All around, it was a delightfully surly evening, but if you weren’t there, there’s absolutely no way you’ll be able to comprehend it. Still, here’s a run-down, if you dare to try:

The man was a delicious delight: Our guest of honor, Michael Musto, appeared resplendent in a black and white striped couture suit. He told sly jokes all evening that went way over the heads of many of the gay bois who seemed to flock to him as if he were candy on a penis. At one point, he pressed a piece of paper into the palm of this editor’s hand, which read, “Douche alert.” And he didn’t mean me!

The crowd was energetically eclectic. Special guests included Tammy Haddad, otherwise known as “the brain” of MSNBC — she needs a show now, Dan Abrams; gossip queen Karen Feld, who appeared frequently on the Joan Rivers Show with Michael; Campari Feld, writer; Pamela Brown; National Journal’s famed Murray Waas; Kevin Naff, star editor of the Washington Blade; Kate Michael, the lovely Miss Washington, DC; Kate Gibbs, editorial empress of Capitol File; Marty Beckerman, author of “Generation SLUT”; Chris Mooney, author of “The Republican War on Science”; Emil Steiner, author of “Drunk Driving”; Bobby Boswell, DC United soccer pro; Wonkette’s Nick Mueller & Liz Gorman (love her); Charles Williamson, otherwise known as the guy who tried to take down Tucker Carlson; Qorvis genius David Bass; Sonja Torkelson, sexy editor of clubchair.com; Jeremy Bronson; several Hardball producers; writers from WaPo, Wonkette, U.S. News, SEED, DC Modern Luxury, Brightest Young Things, the Associated Press, blogs; a couple of hawt drag queens.

The venue was casually chic. There is no doubt: Nage is the new place to see and be seen. The atmosphere is perfect for a variety of tastes, and their American/French cuisine is unbelievable. Chef Kevin Reading and owner Joshua Grapski are to be commended. Plus, they tell great stories about Gary Sinise.

The drinks were amazingly awesome. P.I.N.K. Vodka and Budweiser Select rocked the house last night, thanks to the awesome Keri Ann Meslar and RedPeg Marketing. No, P.I.N.K. vodka is not pink, it’s clear like all vodkas, but it’s infused with caffeine and guarana. It has no taste. It should be Washington’s new alcoholic beverage of choice. Michael loves it, too, and he doesn’t even drink!

The co-hosts were witty and gay. I cannot thank them enough. The magnificent Katherine Kennedy, founder of the ultra-fab Peruse.com, is Washington’s new it girl. Three guys asked me for her number last night, but, alas, she’s spoken for, fellas; plus, she’s way too smart for you. Jeff Gannon, meanwhile, grows less controversial every time I see him. His book is now completely written, he shared, and he’s shopping it to publishers. Victoria Michael, PR guru extraordinaire, made life at the BHDC headquarters much less complicated over the last few weeks. For that, I love her (but not as much as her new beau). Scandalous.

The gossip was gay and witty. Oh, kids, we’ve got some goodies coming soon. You’ll have to wait and see.

The reviews. Wonkette, our competitor, raves about the bash, but, oddly, spends more time talking about Big Head Rob than Michael in their post today. For the record, everyone at Big Head DC thinks that intern Nick Mueller has classic good looks; Brightest Young Things offers a super round-up; DCist does what it does; Freelance Genius had fun. Pamela Sorensen’s punch was spiked!; Chris Mooney got “caught in the act.”

The surprise appearance. Suzanne Somers (via Musto’s reading from her book of poems, “Touch Me”

The letdown: Only 2 drag queens. (Three if you count Nick Mueller.)

The pics: More coming soon.
