tucker2.jpgConservative MSNBC host Tucker Carlson belittled foreign reporter Gerri Peev in an interview with her today on his show for - get this - not asking Sen. Barack Obama’s former foreign policy adviser Samantha Power exactly what Power meant when she called Sen. Hillary Clinton a “monster.” Peev, a correspondent for The Scotsman, indicated that the statement was pretty much self explanatory. Whatever explanation Carlson was looking for, we’ll leave for you to decipher.

Samantha Power, Sen. Barack Obama’s top foreign policy adviser, has just resigned from his campaign for president. She had been drawing much negative attention to the campaign after calling Sen. Hillary Clinton a “monster” in an interview published yesterday. Several Congress members had called on Obama to fire her this morning.

samantha_p1.jpgAt least five members of Congress are saying that Samantha Power, Sen. Barack Obama’s chief foreign policy adviser, should be fired. Power made remarks yesterday calling Sen. Hillary Clinton a “monster.” Power has since apologized, but Obama himself has said in the past that such “slime politics” should not be tolerated.

“Personal attacks are not the way to convince voters that you’re capable of being president of the United States,” New York Rep. Nita Lowey, said in a conference call on Monday morning. “We’re calling on Senator Obama to make it very clear that Samantha Power should not be part of this campaign.”

“It’s really a very important test for Obama,” Lowey added, saying that whether Obama fires Power is a real “test of character.”

Rep. Gregory Meeks and several other top politicos, some who support Clinton, have repeated the call for Power’s firing.

samantha-power1.jpg“She is a monster, too – that is off the record – she is stooping to anything,” Samantha Power, a key foreign policy aide to Sen. Barack Obama, said of Sen. Hillary Clinton during an interview on Thursday.

“You just look at her and think: ergh,” Power added. “But if you are poor and she is telling you some story about how Obama is going to take your job away, maybe it will be more effective. The amount of deceit she has put forward is really unattractive.”

Obama has several times in the past denounced such tactics as “slime politics,” but he hasn’t asked Power to resign at this point.

Political pundits and reporters are beginning to label this case as the latest example of the Obama camp’s collective inexperience.
