Attendees at this weekend’s Rock & Roll Hotel “Underwear Party” were left scratching their heads (and nether regions) when a guest showed up who looked uncannily like the Washington Post’s Robin Givhan, style writer extraordinaire. The bespectacled visitor was said to be carrying around a reporter’s notebook and was paying close attention to the labels of everyone’s undergarments. Now, we’re no expert on the diva’s panties, so you’re going to have to be the judge on this one, kids.

Well, the biggest news resulting from the CNN YouTube debate, as evidenced by post-pundit commentary on both CNN and MSNBC, is obviously that Hillary Clinton chose to wear a pink/salmon colored jacket, while her male counterparts wore dark suits. At one point during the apparent fashion showcase John Edwards turned all Robin Givhan on us, remarking that he appreciates Clinton’s service to the country, “but I don’t know about that coat.” Barack Obama later added that he kind of liked the jacket.

Which, of course, got us to thinking: How much does a collared quilted pink suit jacket cost and where does one go about finding one? After an exhaustive online search, we found a style similar to Clinton’s choice on Ebay of all places (see above pic, stage right). It’s not a perfect match, as it’s a little brighter and has a bit of embroidered black detailing, but it would probably work for anyone asked in a pinch to participate in a YouTube debate.

Sensible chic. Those two simple words appear to be the omnipotent mantra of WaPo’s fashion critic Robin Givhan. In her headshot (mugshot?), we see that she sometimes likes to wear collared green shirts. Subconsciously, of course, she’s reminding us of collard greens, trying to get us to notice that she’s black. A tricky trickster, is she. However, in Givhan’s outward Camelot, there is no race, of course, unless one counts the New York Marathon, since the fashion queen of DC tends to live in Gotham City. Meanwhile, her dark red lipstick masks her secrets (she hates wearing clothes, no doubt), and her sly smile tells us she knows all too well what perfect skirts, skorts and shorts will be in for fall. We can almost catch her winking behind her circular, writhing rims, whispering to us that she can fit in anywhere, she can fit in anything. She is Robin Givhan. She is sensible and chic.

Now, where the F is our Pulitzer?!
