kane.jpgThe 99.5 morning DJ recently took calls from disgusted women all over the city who have been verbally harassed by men on the city’s streets. After Kane said that he wanted to follow one of the callers to find out whether she’s “smokin’ hot,” we somehow lost any illusion that he actually thinks this is much of a problem.

He later added that he liked the idea of barking at women.

Listen up here (under 6/26).

Two new reports from DCRTV support recent Big Head DC items on some possibly unscrupulous developments at the Washington-based XM Satellite Radio Company:

6/27 - Former XM Satellite Radio customers say the DC company has made it difficult to cancel their radio subscriptions. Nearly a dozen of those interviewed by the DC Times said they encountered hang-ups, arguments from XM representatives, and unsolicited promotions when they tried to cancel their service…..

6/27 - An XM source tells us that morning men Opie and Anthony “are on a 60-second delay. There has been a delay system set up at (channel) 202’s Program Director Don Wicklin’s desk.” The DC-based satellite radio firm had denied in a recent Washington Times article that a delay had been implemented to review and remove controversial language. O&A recently returned from a month-long suspension after allowing sexual comments about Secretary Of State Condi Rice to be aired. We’re told that XM, which is appealing to Capitol Hill regulators and government types for the approval of a merger with rival Sirius, is more concerned about the political ramblings of O&A as opposed to any four-letter expletives the radio duo might utter.

DCRTV is reporting a scoop regarding the Washington-based XM Satellite Radio that’s sure to anger more Opie & Anthony fans. Station owners are reportedly planning to implement a three-second delay during O&A’s subscription-based show when the shock jocks return to air following a month-long suspension that saw thousands of angry listeners cancel their service.

“That way if they go into a rant about a particular subject that XM may find overly offensive, (XM management) can dump it,” according to an anonymous DCRTV source. “F-bombs, live sex, and the like will still be allowed, but no more rants regarding political leaders.”

You’ll recall that Opie & Anthony got suspended last month after airing a segment where a guest made sexual remarks about Secretary Of State Condi Rice and First Lady Laura Bush.

It’s well-known that XM officials are currently seeking approval on Capitol Hill for a proposed merger with current rival satellite station Sirius.

Update: The Washington Times reports today that XM “will not charge fans of the duo who dropped the service the customary $14.99 reactivation fee if they restart their subscriptions by the end of the month.”

katharine.jpgWhen the long, long legged American Idol Katharine McPhee was in Washington last week to sing at a youth rally sponsored by Hillary Clinton, all she wanted to do was have a little fun and empower young women to show them they, too, can “shoot for the stars.”

“I love you all,” she told a female Big Head DC operative who attended the event. “You’re great!”

But all was definitely not great after the event when McPhee did local radio show host Kane’s morning show on 99.5 FM (Kane, you’ll recall, unceremoniously replaced the popular Mark Kaye and Kris Gamble morning duo last year). McPhee, you see, was interviewed by intern Ally, and, according to MSNBC, the station had agreed beforehand that McPhee wouldn’t be asked any personal questions.

However, one of the first questions Ally asked the 23-year-old singer was about her 42-year-old boyfriend. She sassily wondered whether having a boyfriend who was so much older hurt or helped the relationship.

Big Head DC has since learned that McPhee is “outraged” and has told friends that she will never do the program again.

Kane, for his part, is sticking to his guns: “Slam us, go-head,” Kane wrote to McPhee fans who have begun to bash the station on their blogs and in the press. “Kat could have had a little more fun with Ally. She could have said, ‘You guys know you’re not supposed to ask me personal questions. What’s wrong with you?’ Rather, she just got mad.”

Big Head DC told you over a week ago that the Army has been investigating Deryk Schlessinger’s MySpace page, which reportedly features cartoon images of rape, murder and child molestation; racial epithets; and stories of drug use. We can now confirm that the profile, which has since been removed, contained the above picture showing Schlessinger pointing a gun into his mouth.

The 21-year-old is currently serving in Afghanistan, while Army officials continue their investigation.
