Big Head DC is here along with approximately 30 - 35 supporters of the Blogger Happy Hour boycott. Roosh and VK just crossed the picket line to enter the bar to loud boos and heckles from the crowd. A chant of “Hell No We Won’t Go to Blogger Happy Hour” has picked up steam — passerbys have no idea what’s going on.

It’s a crazy scene out here, kids.

This movement has really taken shape, kids!!!

When we at Big Head DC threw our support behind the effort to make people aware of the sexism, racism, homophobia, violence and hypocrisy that Roosh V and VK foster through their real-life actions, we had no idea whether people would be ready to open their eyes.

But dozens of you HAVE opened your eyes. We know it isn’t easy to take a stand against bullies when certain bloggers threaten you behind-the-scenes or even commit violence against you in real life. But you’ve all done it. And each and every one of you all deserve a round of applause:

Glamour is a Rocky Road is displaying the glamorous Boycott Blogger Happy Hour logo.

Uneven Steven is straightening things out by adding the boycott banner to his quality site.

Flip ain’t flippin’ for Roosh and VK’s Happy Hour: “I’ve been reading about the Blogger Happy Hours and to me they don’t sound like a bit of fun. As someone who blogs anonymously, FOR MY OWN PURPOSES, I wouldn’t want someone posting my information. My blog is very personal. Even if I wanted to go to one of the happy hours, I won’t now that I know what they are really like. Plus, as others have said, these don’t sound like people I would want to know. The bloggers supporting the boycott sound loyal and decent. Plus I have a lot of new reading material. Count me in.”

As we reported first, Velvet in Dupont, otherwise known as the queen of DC Blogs, has become a true leader in the coalition. Many people across the blogosphere are saying that they love her because she is not like Kathryn in any way!

Crazy Girl City has joined the coalition against Roosh V and VK’s happy hour… She’s not so crazy anymore, is she, folks?

Ashburnite is burning her fire by adding the logo. “I was not going to openly boycott Blogger Happy Hour because of Kassy’s involvement in hosting the event, but the more I thought about it, the more it seemed like the right thing to do,” says she. “I was not going to go anyways, but a stronger statement needs to be made. Velvet has been a great friend to a lot of us, and has always stuck up for us.”

Home Improvement Ninja is throwing stars at VK and Roosh! “…I won’t be attending the Happy Hour,” he says. “Getting back at people by posting their real names and phone numbers on a website is not cool. So I won’t go to a Happy Hour with people who think that’s okay. And if you are thinking of going to a Happy Hour and revealing your identity to people who are so careless about safeguarding it, then lots of luck to you.”

A Total Waste of Makeup is crushing her lipstick in the eyes of mean people. “I have never supported VK and Roosh,” she writes. “VK and Roosh write a lot about me indirectly: a mud turtle, single woman over 30, etc. etc. That has never made me feel good, and as such, have never commented on VK’s blog and commented once on Roosh’s to express a (hopefully) educated opinion coming from the other side.”

The well-adjusted Circumlocutor has chosen to boycott the baddies!

From the DCeiver: “I could give a fig about these happy hours - they rate so insignificantly in the world I traffic in that it’s never occured to me to form an opinion on them one way or another. That they come with an element of rank incivility isn’t in the least surprising.”

“Velvet is one of my dearest friends, and I support her 100%,” comments Freckled K. “I don’t agree with the content or tone of VK’s posts, and he has been made well aware of that by me…in writing and in person. I think she’s been wrongly targeted for some pretty ridiculous reasons, and I find the whole thing to be ugly and tasteless.”

Best DC Blog, one of the most popular blogs in the metro area, has joined the boycott.

“Brunch Bird and View From Dupont removed Roosh and VK from their blog rolls this week,” a commenter informs us.

“I have been boycotting them for more than a year now,” says The Senator from CPMC. “Especially after the last one I attended where I offered Roosh a handshake. He wouldn’t do it. I expected his immaturity and was embarrassed for him.”

Says Andy, “I don’t like what Roosh and VK have openly said about Kassy K, so I will not be attending. It’s my own reason for boycotting, and I feel like this is something, at least.”

Hi, I’m Bo Bo, the official mascot of the “Hell No We Won’t Go!” to the Roosh / VK Blogger Happy Hour Boycott. The Big Head DC All-Stars wanted me to tell you that they’ve been overwhelmed by your support over the last few days. A vibrant community of people who won’t let Roosh and VK pretend to run the DC blogs anymore has truly been born.

In my home land of Snazzyville, we would have never let sexism, racism, homophobia and violence run as rampant as the DC blogosphere has allowed for so long under Roosh and VK.

Today, however, with dozens of folks already signed on to boycott the happy hour, hopefully all our lives here on Earth can be a little bit snazzier.

Some have asked whether they have to do anything beyond posting the logo and/or verbally joining the coalition. The answer is no, but a few bloggers have said that they plan on picketing the upcoming blogger happy hour to spread the word about the racism, sexism, homophobia, hypocrisy and violence that they say has been spread by Roosh and VK.

Editor’s note: We asked David Barzelay what he thinks of Roosh V and VK, and boy, oh boy, was he candid!

Here is his essay:

Of course, I’m happy to share my views on any subject, and unlike many people…I always do so under my real name.

I’ve commented about Virgle Kent on here before. He has a medieval temper, and clearly has no self-control. At the same time, under the right circumstances, I think he’d be a lot of fun to hang out with (as opposed to reading his blog), unless he got all violent.

With Roosh, it’s more complicated, because he’s a deliberate and self-aware type of asshole, more shock-jock than wife-beater, and he lets his tender, soft, emotional, pseudo-intellectual side out occasionally. He’s interesting to read, and his is one of the few DC Blogs that I frequent. I don’t particularly mind that he has no taste, since the meme in which he works has as its central maxim that one can never go too far. He’s Alice Cooper for the alpha male.

But both of them, in my view, ultimately are excused because their blogs are not islands; they both work in the DC Blogs milieu, and are fully within what have been established as the standards of that community. I have no doubt that if the community’s standards changed so that people stopped reading what they currently write, their styles would change. Certainly, neither of them are the kinds of bloggers who can say with a straight face that they write their blogs only for themselves (indeed, such a claim is plainly ridiculous 90% of the time), and ultimately, the readers are the ones who show their approval by frequenting their sites. One can pay them no greater compliment.

Editor’s note: We’re posting this commentary from an anonymous commenter to shed some more light on the anonymous comments issue.

Of course no one will sign their names on their comments. Everyone saw what happened when Velvet, Ashburnite, and Pagan made fun of VK - he ripped them apart, then tried to back-peddle, deleting the entry, saying that he was “better than that.” I’ve got news for you, VK: you can’t take back all of the nasty things you’ve said about people and pretend to be above it all - you’re worse than any of them.

No one reads my blog - it isn’t even on DC Blogs - and I don’t want them reading it. I don’t want to have anything to do with that group. However, I am friends with an “A-lister,” and have been to one of the happy hours. Let me tell you - these people are unbelievable - even my friend (boy did I see a side of her I wish I hadn’t). They are the biggest group of back-stabbing losers I have ever seen. And Kathryn and Roosh are the instigators. They fuel the fire. They stand around at happy hour, making fun of everyone they claim to be “friends” with. I was lucky enough to over-hear some of the things that they have said about Kassy K, Velvet, I-66, and pretty much everyone else- people they claim to be friends with - and they were ripping them apart. And it wasn’t pretty. After that, I decided not to send my link to DC Blogs and to never go to one of those “happy” hours again. These people are supposed to be adults, for God’s sake.

Oh, and better believe that Roosh is behind all of the hate on VK’s blog. I don’t think VK would be able to put together that podcast; he can’t even put together a coherent sentence, so I doubt that he could record and post a podcast.
