Remember when we told you this past weekend that Cecilia Sarkozy called to cancel a planned lunch with President Bush and his family in Maine at the last minute, claiming that she and her kids had developed sore throats?
Naughty kids that we are, we speculated she simply didn’t want to dine with the Bush clan, and it turns out we were probably right.
She was spotted the next day shopping with friends, according to Reuters, setting tongues wagging across Europe that she was being purposely “elusive“:
“With every day that passes, the mystery deepens: Who is Cecilia Sarkozy?” French regional newspaper Le Telegramme wrote in its Monday edition.
“What does the wife of the president of the republic want? To live her life as she likes, without constraint? In which case, why does she accept invitations, like that made personally by Laura Bush?” it added, saying that U.S. first lady Laura had personally organised the lunch with Cecilia.
Hey, to her credit, they were serving hot dogs.

All President Bush wanted to do was have a quaint all-American lunch today with French President Nicolas Sarkozy, his wife Cecilia and their children as part of his summer vacation in Kennebunkport, Maine. He was planning to serve hot dogs and hamburgers, picnic-style and then maybe take a ride out on the family speedboat.
