As some radio listeners learned early this morning, Mark Kaye and Kris Gamble were fired from one of the top-rated shows in DC after completing yesterday’s program. And, as a statement posted on Kaye’s Web site indicates, they’re taking it rather hard: Read more…

We got totally confused when we first read this question to the lovely Lisa de Moraes during her live chat yesterday:

Arlington, Va.: Seriously, what was up with Paula last night? I caught it on CNN this morning, and well, it looks like girlfriend needs help. I also find it interesting that the Web recaps of the show aren’t talking about it. Are most media outlets ignoring it so she can save face?

We soon figured out the Abdul-inspired nature of this question, but, at first, we thought the query was about CNN’s Paula Zahn. Because all the points seem to apply to her, too.

From yesterday’s WaPo TV chat with Lisa de Moraes:

Ballston, Va.: Do you think at some point you might bring some journalistic value to your job? You know like give us some breaking news on Dave Chappelle? Or do you just sit in front of your TV and say “hmmm, that was good.” or “hhhmmm … that wasn’t good.” I mean, does your editor ever feel cheated in any way?

Lisa de Moraes: Mom? Is that you again?…

Then came this sentiment, which I wholeheartedly agree with:

Philly, Pa.: Why do all the TV haters get to hang around the TV chat? I mean, I don’t intrude on their Brainy McEgghead chats going on and on about how reading is hard or whatnot.

Surprised? That’s one of the conclusions that can be drawn from the WaPo’s Lisa de Moraes’ recent analysis of the ratings for the new Geena Davis ABC show Commander in Chief (CiC). She reports that the show’s top market was Cincinnati followed by Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Philadelphia, Buffalo and Tulsa. Detroit, Denver and Columbus, Ohio were also in the top ten.

Meanwhile, in D.C., the most watched show during the same time period was FOX’s “House.”

“So people in Washington are interested in something besides White House politics; they’re also interested in strange terminal diseases,” quips de Moraes. “In fact, when it comes to ‘CiC’ ratings, Washington ranked 23 out of 53 metered markets.”

As a Washingtonian, I must confess that I like both strange diseases and female politicians. Why should I have to choose? Networks, please juggle your schedules.
