When Jenna Bush sleeps in what she calls “the White House kids’ bedroom,” she gets spooked, according to Texas Monthly.

“I feel like it’s filled with millions of ghosts,” she says. “I get scared there sometimes. I’m not kidding. I have heard ghosts, I really have — ghosts singing opera. One night, opera noises came out of my fireplace. When I told my sister, she didn’t believe me, but the next week we were up late in that bedroom and we heard 1950s piano music. People will think I’m crazy for saying that.”

Thankfully for her, it won’t be much longer now before her hubby-to-be Henry Hager can keep her safe at all hours of the night.

President Bush has appointed John Hager (father of Henry Hager, who happens to be Jenna’s fiance) to the delegation for the Special Olympics Summer Games in Shanghai next month.

And it’s not the first time Bush had pulled strings for the Hager family. Papa John was nominated by the president to be assistant secretary within the United States Department of Education, and then served from 2004 to 2007. Meanwhile, Henry somehow secured a cushy job with Karl Rove during the 2004 elections.

Big Head DC can confirm that ABC’s Diane Sawyer has taped an interview with Jenna Bush, set to air this Friday on 20/20. The first daughter will discuss her recent book, along with details on her engagement to Henry Hager. It’s the first sit-down interview for Jenna since 2004 when she filmed an A&E fbiography about her mom.

Expect Sawyer to prod Jenna about her engagement ring, which she’s been telling friends she wishes were bigger. And by the way, she’s not preggers.

Back in May 2006 Jenna Bush was spinning away on - what else? - a spin machine when the instructor of her DC Sports Club class took a few cheap shots about her dad’s “stupidity” and handed out DVDs highlighting a few of the more goofy Bushisms.

The wily instructor Glenn Makl soon claimed not to know that Jenna was in his class and that he was “horrified” to find out what he had done (he’s a lawyer, too, kids).

That was after Jenna’s now-fiance Henry Hager called Makl up and gave him a verbal shake-down. (Remember, Hager once worked for Karl Rove, so he’s probably pretty good at all sorts of shake-downing).

When we talked to Makl recently he said he’d always remember Hager’s call: “The kid was steaming mad,” he told Big Head DC. “He wanted to protect her.”

Ah, how sweet. But the tongue-lashing couldn’t have been too too severe. After all, the controversial spin class instructor returned as a substitute spinner at the club earlier this year.

And Jenna, apparently, hasn’t worked out since.

Now that Henry Hager and Jenna Bush are planning their big ole White (House) wedding, we know you want to know more details about her tall (not really), handsome (you be the judge) stranger:

Age: 29 (three years older than Jenna)

Where he lives: An apartment in Arlington.

Lineage: His dad is John H. Hager, former lieutenant governor in Virginia and former director of Virginia’s Office of Commonwealth Preparedness. In 2005, President Bush nominated the elder Hager to be assistant secretary for special education and rehabilitative services, a position in the Department of Education. He now runs the Virgina GOP. His mom is Maggie Hager, an advocate for the rights for disabled people.

Work experience: Served as a White House aide under Karl Rove, helping his soon-to-be father-in-law win reelection in 2004.

When he fell in love: Sometime after Election Night in 2004 when, at the time, Jenna was spotted frolicking with a different male companion.

What’s he like: “He’s got his head on straight,” a friend of Hager family said in 2005.

Our favorite date to Smith Point Jenna Bush is officially single no more.

The White House announced today that she’s engaged to longtime boyfriend, Henry Hager (we’ll tell you a funny story about him soon — if you’re good):

President and Mrs. George W. Bush are happy to announce the engagement of their daughter, Jenna Bush, to Mr. Henry Hager, son of the Honorable and Mrs. John H. Hager of Richmond, Virginia. Miss Bush and Mr. Hager became engaged Wednesday, August 15, 2007.

No wedding date has been set.

Having seen Jenna pop a few champagne corks in her lifetime, we’ve gotta wonder whether she popped the question, or let her Southern manners dictate.
