“We had literally just gotten our drinks of white Chimay!” Politico reporter Helena Andrews tells the City Paper regarding her recent night out inside a smoldering (literally) D.C. bar.

“They were humongous. We were downing our glasses. They were trying to kick us out, but we had just gotten our drinks, and we were going to finish them. And we did.”

It’s unknown just how many drinks Andrews had had up to that point.

Get this. Anne “Mellons” Schroeder was to solo host a Politico online chat yesterday, but her bosses asked that co-writer Helena Andrews sit in on the chat. Andrews, who some say is much more worldly than Schroeder, ended up stealing all of her thunder. In fact, questioners began addressing their questions only to Helena. One, we hear, even asked that Schroeder not weigh in on one of their questions. Schroeder is believed to have ignored that question.

Why is one of the Politico’s only black writers Helena Andrews portrayed as a drinker? All of the other caricatures on their pages are pretty vanilla, if you catch our drift. Maybe if there were a tad bit more diversity in that newsroom, it wouldn’t be an issue?
