Nick Denton seems to think so, calling them the “cosiest co-anchors” and saying their “on-air antics have convinced MSNBC grunts the two are pursuing an off-camera affair.” Of course, Denton also calls Scarborough a “liberal darling,” so who knows if it’s true?

On 2/8/08 flying CO flight 659 F Washington Reagan to Houston-Bush Intl. Sat behind Sheila Jackson Lee in first class. As we left the plane in Houston, a heavily armed policeman wearing a bullet proof vest was standing in the jetway by the door. He escorted Ms. Lee up the jetway to an electric cart. Even though there was a shortage of carts, she rode in the cart with only the policeman sitting behind her. Why would Ms. Lee need an armed escort in an airport where everyone must go through to security to reach the gates. How much does this cost taxpayers?

This is gossip at this point, but rumor has it that Larry Sinclair, the increasingly throbbing thorn in Sen. Barack Obama’s side, has retained a high profile lawyer to help him fight his defamation suit against the senator and his adviser, David Axelrod. We’ve been told that Sinclair’s lawyer may be Joe Tacopina, who represents Joran Van Der Sloot, the individual accused in the Natalie Holloway murder case. But that is speculation at this point. Stay tuned. In the mean time, Sinclair has supposedly arrived in NYC in advance of taking a polygraph and is expected to hold a press conference in the coming days.

Yes, that was Newsweek’s Howard Fineman applying what looked like brown mascara in a tube to his own temples in a men’s restroom, apparently in preparation to be on air for MSNBC’s coverage of tonight’s big Democratic presidential debate. The forever brown-haired Washington correspondent must not have had time for his wife, Amy L. Nathan, to give him the full dye treatment last night. A source who’s just a hair away from the intrepid newsman tells Big Head DC that Mrs. Fineman blabbed recently to pals about regularly doing the colorful deed. Hey, maybe her hands are just tired? Born in 1948, we’d guess Fineman has quite a lot of gray to cover-up.

In response to a New York Magazine interview with FOX News anchor Shepherd Smith, Gawker Media is rehashing some old gossip that the newscaster may be a closeted homosexual.

“FOX News anchorman Shepherd Smith has lovely locks, a Southern twang and piles of rampant homosexuality rumors,” the Web site reported yesterday. “Of course, he doesn’t help matters much by saying ‘blowjob’ by accident during his live newscast…” The site then goes on to rank him as having a high probability of being gay on the infamous Kinsey Scale.

Of course, if saying blowjob is a qualification for being gay, then all the world is probably gay (hopefully!). But Smith also has that old story in his closet from Washington Blade editor-in chief Kevin Naff, who claims Shepherd once hit on him at a NYC piano bar. To our knowledge, Smith has never debunked Naff’s recollection.

Big Head DC first broke the news that Smith will anchor this weekend’s marathon Super Bowl political coverage on the cable network.

Now that editors Wes Pruden and Frances Coombs have stepped aside, some kids inside the Washington Times newsroom are speculatiing that former editorial page editor Tony Blankley may be interested in rejoining the team. He joined a public relations firm in September, some say, because he was unhappy with the leadership of Pruden and Coombs. With John Solomon now in charge, he may want to stage a comeback.

After weeks of rumor, Big Head DC’s spies have confirmed a romance between Juleanna Glover, GOP hostess/lobbyist extraordinaire (and recent divorcee) with failed Democratic presidential hopeful Dal LaMagna. The political odd couple was seen lunching and dining around town a few times over the holiday season — at Sushi-Ko, Bombay and in Bethesda at Levante’s. Smooches, at some point, were possibly involved. We hear, too, that LaMagna, 61, is apparently much older than Glover, whose sister, Liz Glover, works for the Wonkette tabloid.

After intense questioning from Tim Russert on Meet the Press this morning, Barack Obama said there are “no surprises” yet to be revealed about his background. The Illinois senator said that he believes the Hillary Clinton campaign has researched his life thoroughly, and would have made any bombshell revelations by now, if there were any hiding in his past beyond his drug use. He added that Michelle Obama is the only person who knows all of his secrets.
