BHDC 'GOP' File:

Filed under: GOP, John Kerry, Barack Obama

Much like John Kerry was brandished a flip-flopper in 2004, a new GOP online advertising campaign seeks to paint Barack Obama as a man who not only enjoys eating waffles, but as a candidate who waffles on the issues.

Check out the ad below:

julia-carson2.jpgRep. Julia Carson only passed away yesterday, but Republican politicians in Indiana are already making moves to vie for her Congressional seat.

Political insiders are saying in local media reports that state Rep. Jon Elrod, R-Indianapolis, thinks he may have a chance of winning in the heavily Democratic district, and GOP analysts “consider the seat worth watching” after Republican Greg Ballard’s upset of Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson, a Democrat.

Sen. John Kerry won the district with 58 percent of the vote in 2004. Carson’s grandson, Democrat Andre Carson, is considered an early favorite as a replacement for his grandma.

ben-johnson.jpgBut is there proof? Those ever-satirical Wonkette editors, after all, said last week that they wouldn’t link to the Big Head DC story about Benjamin Nicholas and Trent Lott because they thought it could be wrong (what a strange time to grow a conscience). But now they’re implying some young college Republican is gay because he uses exclamation points when he types. WTF!!!!?

Do we smell a double standard, or was the Wonkette boss Nick Denton just mad that we scooped him on a story he’d been sniffing out (literally) for some time?

Filed under: GOP, Elections, Ron Paul

vendetta-ron-paul.jpgWhen are Republicans going to start taking this guy seriously? On Monday, Ron Paul, the surging GOP candidate for president, raised over $4 million in a less than one-day period. The amazing amount of fund raising was largely Web-driven and coincided with the commemoration of Guy Fawkes Day. Fawkes was a British mercenary who was the model for the protagonist in the movie V for Vendetta.

“Paul backers motivated donors on the Internet with mashed-up clips of the film on the online video site YouTube as well as the Guy Fawkes Day refrain: ‘Remember, remember the 5th of November,’” the AP notes.

Paul’s one-day tally ranks as one of the largest amounts of money a candidate for president has ever raised in 24 hours.

curtiscodycastagna.jpg

Remember Richard Curtis, the Republican Washington state representative who was forced to resign last week after it was revealed that he dressed up in ladies’ clothes and had anal sex with some dude without a condom? Well! It turns out the dude he had sex with, named Cody Castagne, was actually already famous before this whole tawdry affair went down. Because, you see, he is actually a gay porn star. And the kids over at Fleshbot have uncovered some pretty graphic snaps of his recent work. Now you just gotta wonder if the ex-politico took any pics during his personal Cody sessions?

donkey-01.jpgSeveral GOP seats in the Senate are up for grabs, according to a new poll commissioned by Roll Call and conducted by automated polling firm SurveyUSA. The survey finds presumptive Democratic nominees beating Republican rivals by large margins in Virginia and New Hampshire.

“In the likely general election race in Virginia between former Gov. Mark Warner (D) and his predecessor, ex-Gov. Jim Gilmore (R), Warner was preferred by 57 percent of those surveyed compared with 35 percent for Gilmore,” writes Roll Call’s Josh Kurtz.

“Things also look bleak for the GOP in New Hampshire, as the state’s former governor, Jeanne Shaheen, maintains an 11 point lead over Sen. John Sununu (R), who previously defeated her for the seat in 2002,” Raw Story reports. Read more…

Filed under: GOP, Politics, Gay, Larry Craig

gay-republicans.jpgAre times a changin’ for gay GOPers? With Larry Craig as an unlikely poster boy, some gay Republicans interviewed by Reuters sure seem to think so.

“I believe that the approach of the social extremists eliminates our party’s ability to grow in the future,” said Doug Warner, a member of the Log Cabin Republicans who drives an SUV and likes hunting and fishing.

“Somewhere along the way our party was hijacked by the social extremists who say that government needs to regulate things that were once considered private,” added Warner’s partner Truman Smith, who works as a private consultant and is the president of Log Cabin’s South Carolina chapter. “If we believe in lower taxes and less government, what are we going to do? Become Democrats?” Read more…

Filed under: GOP, Elections, Mike Huckabee

mike-huckabee-no-suit.jpgIt’s well-known that many conservatives are not exactly wet in the pants for current GOP front runners Rudy Giuliani and Fred Thompson. Rather, many of the most conservative are pumped by Mike Huckabee, the former Arkansas governor who actor  Chuck Norris is supporting. But he’s running at fourth in most polls, which doesn’t bode well for his prospects at this point.

So, some are asking Huckabee to do the unthinkable: form a third party and try to steal the GOP spotlight, much like Ross Perot and Pat Buchanan have done in the past. Republican party leaders are desperate for that not to happen, and some hope that the winner of the GOP race will ultimately tap Huckabee as VP.

“Influential conservatives are clashing over whether Mr. Huckabee is capable of keeping evangelicals from fleeing the GOP to form a third party or if he’s too liberal fiscally for the Republican electorate,” the Wash Times reports. “The battle is bubbling into the public arena, fueled by fears that a three-way race could hand the presidency to Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton or another Democrat, and by murmurs of Mr. Huckabee as a vice-presidential candidate on the party’s ticket.”

Who knew that a guy in fourth place could have so much pull? Stay tuned….

Filed under: Internet, GOP, Ron Paul

“Effective immediately, new users may *not* shill for Ron Paul in any way shape, form or fashion,” according to an author on the popular conservative blog. “Not in comments, not in diaries, nada. If your account is less than 6 months old, you can talk about something else, you can participate in the other threads and be your zany libertarian self all you want, but you cannot pimp Ron Paul. Those with accounts more than six months old may proceed as normal.”

Commenting on the surely controversial entry was not allowed. So, does this mean his supporters are a threat, or just really annoying?
