Original report, June 19, 7:35 p.m.:
“We’re all reacting here… putting on shit,” Chris Matthews just yelled after coming back from a commercial break before realizing that he’d gone live on the air. The verbal slip-up occurred during the second live airing of his MSNBC “Hardball” program today, and it’s believed the “shit” he referenced was a pre-packaged interview with the now-independent NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg by NBC lead anchor Brian Williams.
“I apologize for that,” Matthews said in a solemn voice after the Williams report aired. ”I shouldn’t have used that word on the air.”
The gaffe comes on the same day that Matthews was booed during his questioning of Hillary Clinton at a labor forum in DC. It also comes only weeks after some have begun speculating whether the diabetic talker is drinking too heavily in his private life.

FOX News is reporting that “anger burst forth memorably and loudly” yesterday when Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) accused Sen. John McCain of being “too busy running for president” to help run the Senate. McCain reportedly responded by using “the f-word toward Cornyn,” but it wasn’t clear “if the f-word was a verb or a gerund.”
(It’s also unclear at this point whether the f-word is just another Republican term of endearment. You know, like shooting your hunting partner in the face.)
The exact statement, a WaPo blogger reports: “Fuck you! I know more about this than anyone else in the room!”
Oh boy, we can’t wait to see what words ole Grandpa McCain will be shouting by the time this thing is over!

As we noted months ago, Barbra Streisand will rock Washington this Friday the 13th. Are we the unluckiest people in the world? Maybe not. Last night, she resorted to yelling “shut the fuck up” to a star-studded audience during her NYC performance.
No, the queen’s ire wasn’t directed at Oprah or Rosie, but rather, toward a persistent heckler who didn’t appreciate a skit during the show that portrayed an impersonator making George Bush out to be “bumbling idiot” (original, Babs), according to the AP. No word on whether the real Bush will appear at her Verizon Center concert, but maybe Dick Cheney will hire Jason to lurk in the audience, ready to machete anyone who applauds too loudly for the unabashedly liberal singer.
The AP reports that President Bush is getting a little testy about the situation in the Middle East. Today, he whispered some naughty words into Tony Blair’s ear (not the good kind), which were accidentally picked up on tape:
“See, the irony is what they really need to do is to get Syria to get Hezbollah to stop doing this (expletive),” Bush told Blair in a discussion before the Group of Eight leaders began their lunch.
Now, we don’t use swear words ourselves, so we’ll need your help in figuring out the missing expletive.

The Democratic political consultant (and Georgetown instructor) was on Don Imus this morning and they, of course, got to talking about Coulter’s new book, in which she criticizes 9/11 widows.
We had to chuckle a little when Imus and Begala, the cowboys that they are, took to comparing Coulter to a mare (that’s a female horse) in Lonesome Dove, called Hellbitch.
The only difference between Coulter and Hellbitch, quipped Begala, is that a man would actually ride Hellbitch.
