Several GOP seats in the Senate are up for grabs, according to a new poll commissioned by Roll Call and conducted by automated polling firm SurveyUSA. The survey finds presumptive Democratic nominees beating Republican rivals by large margins in Virginia and New Hampshire.

“In the likely general election race in Virginia between former Gov. Mark Warner (D) and his predecessor, ex-Gov. Jim Gilmore (R), Warner was preferred by 57 percent of those surveyed compared with 35 percent for Gilmore,” writes Roll Call’s Josh Kurtz.

“Things also look bleak for the GOP in New Hampshire, as the state’s former governor, Jeanne Shaheen, maintains an 11 point lead over Sen. John Sununu (R), who previously defeated her for the seat in 2002,” Raw Story reports. Read more…

New research suggests that liberal brains and conservative brains are hard-wired quite differently.

Conservatives tend to crave order and structure in their lives, and are more consistent in the way they make decisions, according to a study published in the British journal Nature Neuroscience. Liberals, by contrast, show a higher tolerance for ambiguity and complexity, and adapt more easily to unexpected circumstances.

So, are all conservatives rigid and stubborn? Are all liberals wishy-washy and don’t stick to their guns?

Depends on your perspective. But, remember, the brain is malleable and neural functions can change as a result of new experiences.

Barack Obama was the first to confirm his appearance at the LOGO/Human Rights Campaign forum, so he’s the first to pop his cherry with the gay round table, which consists of the president of the Human Rights Campaign, a black WaPo reporter and Melissa Etheridge. Yes, she’s a lesbian.

Barack’s tending to be boring and not seeming to have much flair.

9:23: John Edwards is next in the hot seat. Hair is looking nicely coiffed as usual.

9:26: Edwards says he’s comfortable around gay people. Especially a room full of gay people.

9:34: Edwards says he shouldn’t have said his faith prevents him from supporting gay marriage. “From my perspective, it it wrong…to impose my faith belief on the American people…” Still, his position on same sex marriage has not changed, he adds. “All I can tell you is where I am today.”

9:41: Shorty Kucinich is up to bat. “Imagine the equal sign inside a heart,” says he. “I stand for real equality.” Yup, he’s a gay icon. He may be short, but he’s bigger than Madonna in that respect.

After renewing their wedding vows yesterday John and Elizabeth Edwards took a break from the campaign trail to celebrate their 30th anniversary by eating at Wendy’s for dinner.

The Reliable Source reports that he had a cheeseburger and iced tea, while she had chili and a Frosty.

Meanwhile, President Jimmy Carter and wife Rosalyn stopped by a Virginia McDonald’s yesterday afternoon for the second time in less than a week.

He reportedly ordered a sundae and some coffee. After they finished eating, the elderly power couple were spotted smooching.

This is not power food, people! But it is, apparently, romance food.

Despite his image as a bastion of all things liberal, filmmaker Michael Moore was seen by Big Head DC pulling up to the big premiere of “Sicko,” his homage to the pitfalls of the American health care system, in a gas guzzler of a vehicle on Wednesday night.

His not-so-sweet ride, “a crew van, used to make movies,” he told us, caught some of the many progressives in attendance by surprise.

“Maybe he can’t fit in a hybrid,” one onlooker quipped.

“You’d think he’d know better,” said another. “Especially considering he wants Al Gore to run for president.”

Well, here’s a solution: Nobody tell Gore that Moore’s a gas whore! And maybe forget, too, to remind Gore that Moore supported Ralph Nader in 2000.

Which top-ranking Democratic Senator who once ran for president has been on the hunt for a taste of fleshy female goods while traveling to trade shows?

A Big Head DC source tells us that said Senator was giving her ”the eye” as she sat in the front row of a speech he gave during a recent panel discussion.

“After it was over, he looked at me, gestured for me to cover over to where he was and gave me his card with his hotel room number written on the back,” she says. “Stupid me, I didn’t see the room number on the card until I was on the plane. I would have gone, for sure, it would have been fun having that one as belt notch.”

Our source still has his card, but she’s not naming names. Yet.

What do our nation’s leaders eat to build up their political strength?

Culinary delights from Popeye’s Famous Chicken & Biscuits, of course. Big Head DC spotted a couple of poor Congressional aides struggling twice in recent days rolling overflowing carts filled with the chain’s brand of poultry and pastry up the hill to the Capitol for Congress to dine on while chewing the fat. (Don’t tell anyone, but one box of chicken fell to the ground and an aide quickly snatched it up, placing it back on the cart.)

When asked where they were heading, the young staffers said that they had to feed their hungry bosses. A manager with a nearby Popeye’s restaurant says that many Capitol-bound orders have come in to the restaurant since Democrats have taken control.

Alright, who’s the culprit? Which Dems are flippin’ for fowl?
