Montgomery Blair Sibley, the former lawyer for alleged “D.C. Madam” Deborah Jeane Palfrey has provided Big Head DC with his initial comments on the guilty verdict rendered against her on Tuesday.

Sibley said he’s “disappointed, but not surprised” by the verdict, and added that he has not yet spoken to Palfrey. He does anticipate that there will be an appeal.

Preston Burton, Palfrey’s current lawyer who once represented Monica Lewinsky, has instructed his client to remain mum on the verdict, but she did let out an audible gasp when it was read in court.

Palfrey was found guilty of racketeering, money laundering and two counts of using the mail for illegal purposes. Sen. David Vitter is believed to have used what Palfrey has always maintained is a “fantasy” escort business.

Burton called no witnesses in Palfrey’s defense, and she did not take the stand.

Publisher Larry Flynt is offering Ashley Alexander Dupre, the 22-year-old former hooker for Gov. Eliot Spitzer, $1 million to pose nude for Hustler magazine.

“We think this is an item that is going to stay in the news for some time,” Flynt said. “We think it’s not bad for a 22-year-old to make $1 million for a few hours work. It beats what she was making at the escort service.”

An escort who had an affair with Sen. David Vitter recently appeared nude in the pages of Hustler. Whether Dupre, who is said to be interested in having a singing career, will go all the way with Flynt is yet to be seen.

“In light of the National Republican Congressional Committee’s call for candidates and members of Congress to return soon-to-be former Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s (D) donations, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) wonders why members and the National Republican Senatorial Committee have not returned Sen. David Vitter’s (R-LA) contributions,” according to a statement from the organization released on Thursday. “As widely reported, Sen. Vitter has solicited prostitutes in the past. Rather than being condemned and ostracized, Sen. Vitter received a standing ovation at a Republican Caucus luncheon after his transgressions became public.”

The statement continues, “what is good for the goose should be good for the gander,” and notes the following contributions made by Vitter:

“In light of the revelations about Governor Eliot Spitzer’s use of prostitutes, we are reminded again that the Senate Ethics Committee has so far refused to investigate Senator David Vitter (R-LA), who admitted to using the services of the so-called D.C. Madam to solicit for prostitution. Although Governor Spitzer’s conduct is more serious — likely amounting to one or more felonies — both men are high level government officials who have publicly proclaimed their high moral standards. Both should have to live by those standards and be held accountable for their actions. The Ethics Committee should not continue to give Senator Vitter a pass.”

Hustler magazine publisher Larry Flynt, the legendary journalist who in 2007 helped expose Sen. David Vitter’s rendezvous with multiple escorts, has some harsh words for Gov. Eliot Spitzer.

“It is matters like these that brings hypocrisy to the forefront of American politics,” Flynt said in a statement issued on Monday afternoon. ”Although I didn’t have anything to do with his outing, I wish him well.”

It is notable that Spitzer is a Democrat, since some critics of Flynt’s focus on Vitter’s misdeeds had said Flynt had pursued a Republican sex witch hunt. Flynt has always maintained that he wishes to expose political hypocrisy in all forms.

It was revealed earlier on Monday that Spitzer last month participated in a prostitution ring called the Emperors Club, but had cracked down on prostitution rings when he was attorney general of New York.

Last July, Post gossip columnist Amy Argetsinger was making some calls on David Vitter, the Louisiana senator whose phone number had shown up in the phone records of the famous “D.C. Madam.” After the story bounced all over the country, a New Orleans madam spoke up with allegations that Vitter had been a client of her brothel.

Argetsinger was all over it, nailing an interview with the Southern madam and pushing it toward publication. But her editor, Steve Reiss, spiked the story on sourcing grounds, arguing that the Post account rested precariously on the word of the New Orleans madam. Says Argetsinger via e-mail: “Reiss was aware that everyone else was writing about her but said that we can’t use that as an excuse—in essence, that the Post had to take the higher moral ground.” Argetsinger rushed to find a replacement item.

The next day, the columnist set out to “revisit” the Vitter issue. She pumped “New Orleans madam” into Google and found that the first story to pop up came from the Post. Turns out that washingtonpost.com had piped into the Web site an AP version of the very same story that a Style editor had just killed.

Argetsinger wasn’t mad; she was encouraged. Now she had an argument for her editors: Hey, if we have the AP story on our site, why can’t we publish our own version? “I guess I was arguing, ‘look, the Post’s already tainted here,’” writes Argetsinger via e-mail. Not tainted enough: When the issue reached the desk of top editor Downie, he sided with Argetsinger’s editor.

“Two different companies and two different standards operating under the same rubric”—that’s how Argetsinger sums it up.

During a press conference this morning, Sen. Trent Lott gave no specific reasons for his strangely abrupt exit from the U.S. Senate planned for the end of this month. “It’s time for us to do something else,” Lott said, speaking for himself and his wife Tricia at a news conference. “There are no problems. I feel fine.”

Several Internet sites are alleging that Larry Flynt, the man behind Hustler, may have played a role in this abrupt resignation. The media mogul has been saying for weeks that he would soon reveal a major GOP politico sex scandal. Flynt already had a role earlier this year in uncovering Sen. David Vitter’s indiscretions with the so-called “DC Madam” escort service.

Lott’s non-explanation for his exit is likely to fuel the speculation, Congressional insiders predict.

Lott said he notified President Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour on Sunday about his plans. Barbour, a Republican, will name someone to temporarily replace the senator.

Big Head DC hears that Hustler’s Larry Flynt may have played a role in the sudden and unexpected announcement of the resignation of Sen. Trent Lott this morning. Flynt was already involved earlier this year in uncovering Sen. David Vitter’s involvement with the so-called DC Madam escort service. He has said he would reveal more “huge” tawdry politico sex scandals by year’s end.

Some are speculating that a sex scandal is involved in the odd Trent development, although the unofficial spin is that the exit of the Republican Senate Minority Whip may be linked to a new post-Senate career lobbying law that takes effect at the end of the year. He is believed to be in good health.

“Lott’s office initially denied that he he would step down…subsequent requests for information about his plans went unanswered,” acording to NBC News.

Lott had just been re-elected to a fourth Senate term just one year ago. Big Head DC can confirm that at least two of Lott’s staffers were unaware of this unusual twist over the weekend. He is now the sixth Senate Republican this year alone to announce retirement. Stay tuned.

Must credit Big Head DC:

Big Head DC has independently confirmed that a phone number belonging to longtime ABC newsman Sam Donaldson appears within the escort records of Deborah Jeane Palfrey. Palfrey, who is better known as the “D.C. Madam,” owned the Washington-based Pamela Martin & Associates escort business for several years through 2006.

Palfrey has told Big Head DC that she has communicated with Donaldson via telephone on at least one occasion. Once when she talked to Donaldson, she says, he was immediately panicked and asked how she got his number. Other times he left messages on her voice mail. Donaldson has not returned repeated requests for comment.

Big Head DC has determined that several media organizations, including ABC News - the employer of Donaldson - have long been holding information that indicates Donaldson’s number was listed within the records of the alleged “DC Madam.”

ABC News interviewed Palfrey last spring, and failed to uncover several prominent names on her list, including that of Sen. David Vitter. Sources indicate that ABC may have been withholding some information at least in part because their researchers had long ago discovered the Donaldson connection.

When ABC News was researching Palfrey’s story in April and May, she says they told her that they had found two prominent news anchors’ numbers in her phone records.

Donaldson married his wife Janice C. Smith in 1983.
