An MSNBC tipster tells Big Head DC that David Gregory and executive producer Noah Oppenheim got “spanked hard” last week due to falling ratings for the duo’s Race for the White House. We’ve even heard buzz of a screaming match between top honcho Phil Griffin and Gregory. Such displays of temper were far less common under Tucker Carlson — the guy Gregory replaced, but has had difficulty in out-pacing, ratings-wise, at least.

Jossip reports that NBC’s David Gregory recently “mouthed off” to a waitress in front of Tim Russert — and Russert was apparently infuriated by the newsman’s diva-like behavior, telling him “never to behave that way in front of him again.” A tipster now tells Big Head DC that Russert vented about the incident to frequent MSNBC pundit Mike Barnicle who told the NBC staffers who leaked to Jossip. Lesson here: Be kind to the help, kids.

Everyone already knows about that tingling feeling Chris Matthews gets up his leg when he hears Sen. Barack Obama give a speech, and now campaign cash contribution records reveal another MSNBC anchor who might have some pro-Obama leanings.

Financial records indicate that Beth Wilkinson, wife of MSNBC White House reporter David Gregory, has contributed $4,600 to Obama’s presidential campaign. To Big Head DC’s knowledge, the newsman has not disclosed this contribution to viewers.

Gregory’s new MSNBC show, Race for the White House, debuts today at 6 p.m.

Julie Mason, writer of Beltway Confidential, reported yesterday that NBC reporter David Gregory was caught showing off his new iPhone, playing “No More I Love Yous,” when the new White House press briefing room opened yesterday. But that couldn’t have been his ring tone, as iPhones don’t yet allow custom ring tones, and “No More I Love Yous” is not one of the built-in tones. Must just be his taste in music. Remember, the iPhone is an iPod, too…

Or maybe he was literally on the phone with a singing Annie Lenox!

Gregory said this was only his second commencement speech, the other being a high school speech. Diane suggested, that by listening instead of talking, we may become more attentive to the whole person, and by that very engagement, learn more about ourselves. No wonder American University students remain the butt of jokes: here we have President Bush, Vice President Cheney, and others of like protest worthyness by The Left and Good Old AU gets these two losers. I can understand the classic protests of Bush & Cheney given the current climate change, but nobody at AU could muster a protest or two over these Media Clowns being Serious Speakers at their commencement?…
