Perhaps you don’t want to believe the Benjamin Nicholas / Trent Lott story because you played a role in once hiring Nicholas, an alleged plagiarist, to write a few articles for your newspaper, The Stranger? Have you had communications with Nicholas since this story broke? If so, what has he told you? Have you not been honest in explaining your relationship with him? Most importantly, why did he risk his negatively affecting escort business by not flat-out denying a Lott relationship in his original e-mails?

The sex advice columnist goes beyond the call of duty this week: 

Josh Marshall at TalkingPointsMemo was confused about whether Bob Allen [a Florida state representative] wanted the cop to blow him or if Allen wanted to blow the cop; Marshall was also confused about whether Allen was offering payment or requesting payment. One look at Allen clears up the payment question: This is not a man who gets paid for sex. As for the who-blows-whom issue, like many straight men, Marshall doesn’t see blowjobs as a pleasurable activity for the blower. That’s what a lifetime of getting head from straight women can do to a guy.

Josh? When a male escort is engaged for oral sex, it is almost always the escort who is “serviced,” not the client, because many gay men—and many, many straight-identified men—actually enjoy giving head. Please make a note of it.

Well, Mr. Marshall. Now you know.

Noted gay advice columnist Dan Savage weighs in this week on the rather strange case of 18-year-old Tyler Whitney, a self-professed up-and-coming conservative activist who currently works as a webmaster for GOP antigay presidential candidate, Tom Tancredo. Whitney also reportedly leads an antigay political group on his college campus and has carried a “Go Back in the Closet!” sign at an antigay protest.

Recently, Between the Lines, a gay newspaper in Michigan (who knew they had one?), published a story that noted Whitney has told some friends that he is gay, which was then picked up by loads of national gay bloggers, including Mike Rogers, the gay editor of BlogActive, a blog that’s outed at least two dozen high-ranking political figures since 2004.

Bay Buchanan, an adviser to Tancredo, has said that Whitney’s “sexual preference is a personal matter” and that it should have “nothing to do with the campaign.”

But Savage disagrees:

“Sorry, Bay, but gay-bashing thugs—people like you, your horrible brother Pat, your vile candidate—can’t have it both ways. If Whitney’s sexual preference is a personal matter, then so is mine. If Whitney’s sexual preference shouldn’t have anything to do with the campaign, then neither should mine—nor should the sexual preference of any other American. But so long as the GOP attacks gay Americans, Whitney’s sexuality—and his hypocrisy—has everything to do with the campaign.”

Hmmmmm. Hypocrisy among politicos. Now where have we heard about that before?
