Big Head DC hears that comedian Kathy Griffin, currently on tour, is complaining that porn star Jenna Jameson upstaged her during her recent visit to Washington. The two ladies visited Walter Reed Army Medical Hospital on the same day, but the troops tended to want to ogle Jameson much more so than goof off with the funny lady. In fact, several vets were overheard asking, “Who’s Kathy Griffin,” despite her recent Emmy win. Apparently, they don’t get BRAVO in Iraq.

An intrepid tipster informs Big Head DC that Dave Chappelle just couldn’t settle down during the wee hours of this morning. The tired comedian was spotted all over Georgetown — first grabbing a late Thursday night dinner at Johnny Rockets, then swinging by a midnight screening of Jackie Chan’s tiresome Rush Hour 3. After the show, he finally picked up a car from the Four Seasons driving in the direction of upper Northwest after 2 a.m.

Native Washingtonian Dave Chappelle sure is getting around town during his current visit to apparently ground himself after a tumultuous affair with Hollywood. The comedian, spotted in recent days visiting the White House, buying falafel on U Street and banking at a House credit union, turned up yesterday at the Dar Al Hijrah place of worship in Falls Church. He was seen praying and offering praise to fellow Islam worshipers, according to witnesses on the scene.

“He looked happy,” said an observer. “Thin, but happy.”

So it’s 2007 and some people are still debating whether women are funny. Well, DC’s only all-female, all-local comedy showcase plans to put that issue to bed, tuck it in, and sing it a final lullaby when “Broad-Minded Comedy” premieres on Wednesday, June 20 at Riot Act Comedy Club.

Diana Saez, Broad-Minded Comedy co-producer and featured performer, says the show was conceived with other local comics as a way to spotlight Washinton’s funniest women.

“D.C. has so many great comics, and recently there’s an impressive crop of females on the circuit…with comedy being a boys’ club in general…to paraphrase Virginia Woolf, we want Broad-Minded Comedy to be a place for local female comics to have a room of their own…the kind of room with cheap beer and delectable chicken wings,” Saez says. “Seriously, they’re really good…the point is, it’s about chicks with quips. And these quips don’t lie.”
