BHDC 'Chris Wallace' File:

In case you missed Glenn Greenwald’s review of the FOX News anchor’s interview with President Bush:

Chris Wallace interviewed George Bush today on Fox News and, after asking Bush about his views on waterboarding, this was the “question” which Wallace - sitting next to Bush in front of a cozy fireplace (after a borderline-romantic stroll with him down a picturesque, snow-covered Camp David trail) - asked of him:

WALLACE: I want to follow up on that. Whether it is interrogation of terror prisoners or the intercepting of surveillance among al Qaeda members, are you ever puzzled by all of the concern in this country about protecting of rights of people who want to kill us?

Wallace’s obsequious framing was too brazenly propagandistic even for Bush to accept:

BUSH: That is an interesting way to put it. I wouldn’t necessarily define some of the critics of my policy that way. I would say that they want to be very careful that we don’t overstep our bounds from protecting the civil liberties of Americans.

If the subject of a political interview finds the questions from the “journalist” too favorably slanted to embrace (basically: “I think you’re being unfairly harsh to my political opponents” ), isn’t that a fairly compelling sign that there is something profoundly corrupt with the journalist?

fox-news-ron-paul.PNGFOX News is facing loads of criticism from Ron Paul supporters who claim the network purposely excluded the GOP presidential candidate from participating in a Jan. 6 forum scheduled on the network, which was reported first on Big Head DC on Thursday.

The forum, which will be hosted by FOX newsman Chris Wallace, was organized by the New Hampshire Republican Party, but political organizers have told Big Head DC that the decision to exclude Paul was not made by the state GOP.

When Big Head DC first reported on the debate, several Paul supporters posited that Fergus Cullen, Chairman of the New Hampshire Republican Party, was behind the exclusion. Many were especially angry that Fred Thompson was invited to be included in the forum (along with Rudy Giuliani, Mike Huckabee, John McCain and Mitt Romney) when Paul has managed to raise more money than Thompson, and is beating the candidate in some polls.

Paul’s campaign managers are now focusing their criticism on FOX News. “Given Ron Paul’s support in New Hampshire and his recent historic fundraising success, it is outrageous that Dr. Paul would be excluded,” Paul 2008 campaign chairman Kent Snyder said in a press release issued Friday evening. “Dr. Paul has consistently polled higher in New Hampshire than some of the other candidates who have been invited.”

Snyder added, “Paul supporters should know that we are continuing to make inquiries with FOX News as to why they have apparently excluded Dr. Paul from this event.”

To date, FOX News hasn’t answered requests for comment from Big Head DC on this issue.

wallace-c.jpg“I watched about the first hour of it and then I thought I was getting stupider, so I turned it off,” said Fox’s Chris Wallace on yesterday’s Fox & Friends regarding the recent Democratic debate on rival network CNN. “I should say ‘even stupider.’ But that’s more a commentary on CNN than it is on the Democrats.”

“What is the reluctance to let one candidate engage another candidate?” FOX anchor Shepard Smith then asked. “It seemed like there was a buzzer going to go off every time things got real.

“FOX, I have to say, I think we’re smarter.” Wallace replied. “We let the guy talk for a minute, at the end of the minute the bell rings, and that’s it. You’ve got a minute and you can do with it what you want. But instead we have Wolf Blitzer every 30 seconds going ‘Okay, okay, okay.’”
