BHDC 'Blog wars' File:

killing-me.jpgSo, yesterday we told you about some new nightlife bloggers who, apparently, desperately want to stay anonymous. We said they were the “new kids on the block.”

Today, they intend to kill us.

Literally. And they want to gamble illegally!

Why does this always happen to us???

Mike Grass, of Read Express fame, yesterday lamented that “in the past year or so, some of D.C.’s most prolific local bloggers, El Guapo in D.C., First Date D.C., D.C. Direct Current, KathrynOn and Rock Creek Rambler, among others, have closed down shop for various reasons, including, in some cases, the kind of factional online warfare most of us haven’t seen since middle school.”

Ha! What does Grass mean by “factional online warfare”? Blog wars?

Big Head DC covered the goings on at blogs like KathrynOn and Rock Creek Rambler like it was our job, or something, and, believe us, things went way beyond blog wars. In fact, one of the bloggers who co-wrote First Date DC took his online aggressions into reality, showing up at a blogger’s house in the wee hours of the morning on a cold winter’s night this past winter. That blogger has since left the country. Literally.

Grass also quotes Pat Thibodeau, the operator of the DC Blogs site aggregator, and calls his site “comprehensive.”

Again, ha! As we’ve seen from coverage over the years, Thibodeau selectively befriends certain bloggers, excludes others for inconsistent reasons, and has toiled in blog warfare as well.

We even hear that Grass, too, has engaged in behind-the-scenes blog wargames.

It must be an epidemic! And everybody got sick. Except us.

Two updates for you crazies following the Roosh/VK blog wars:

1) Many of you say you know all too well what Roosh looks like, but some of you are concerned that since you’ve never met Virgle Kent, you wouldn’t know what he looks like if he showed up at your house. As a public service, we’re providing you with this identifying photograph:

2) A special commenter at Best DC Blog (named Cast of Desperate Housewives) has provided an excellent round-up of the war. It’s a must-read for latecomers:

….VK seems to have gotten really pissed off at what the bitches [of Bigger Bitch Than You] posted about INPY. He lashed back yesterday with a podcast. The way some tell it, the podcast download contained his complete name. In his attempt to be funny (which the podcast wasn’t, really,) he failed to cross his I’s and dot his T’s.

Big Head Rob caught wind of it pretty quickly and posted it for all to see. Or someone in the comments. Regardless, the name was out there. VK took his podcast down, then put it back up, as he tried to decide what to do.

This morning the bitches posted more and then the war ensued between BBTY, SB, VK, IPNY and Roosh getting involved. Rob has pedaled it all along, giving the blow by blow of the attacks and laughing hysterically at the entire thing, as was everyone else.

Someone then commented on Rob’s site with a phone number purported to be VK’s, and then VK started having the same phenomenon happen in his comments as well. He shut his comments down, Rob posted something cryptic about a wintry night in Silver Spring and then everyone shut their mouths rather quickly.

Thongspeedz, a parody blog of a “parody” blog of a semi-fake blog (love it, you crazy kids) is my vote for best read this week. It’s probably way too “insider” for anyone other than me and six other people to enjoy (yeah, DC blogs are soooo deep, and you can’t join the club), but I wanted to give some credit where credit is due. Be forewarned, there are many thinly veiled tidbits about a confused local blogger in there, but it’s definitely worth your effort to try to figure out the soap opera behind the madness. If you need help, post a comment. I’m happy to explain.

From the tip box: “BLOG WAR! Creole in DC threatens to beat up blogger. Read Creole’s comments on this post.”

I don’t have time to figure out who Creole in DC is right now (where the fuck is Mockette when I need her?!), let alone who she might want to beat up. But maybe you do.

Eagle-eyed BHDC readers may have noticed that an over-eager Big Head Rob fan has feverishly commented on most posts today. That fan happens to be one of our special little troll friends from the libelous BHR fan site. Wikipedia even has something to say about the tricky trickster. Gosh darn it, blog wars are glamorous.

You know you’ve truly arrived when someone creates a cheap, knock-off parody site just for you.

Big Head Rob and the gang at Big Head DC are truly flattered.

Both via anonymous tips and sad posts from a washed up local DC blogger known as Roosh V who keeps saying that he wants to beat me up, kill me, or make fun of my family:

This is now very personal to me. Right now I’m trying to find out where Rob hangs out at and I’ve told people to call me if they see him out. (I know he has a lot of enemies: my email is always open for those of you who have information about his regular whereabouts.) This is a small town so it’s just a matter of time. I guarantee you that once I remind him in person that reality is not just sending threatening emails from behind a computer screen, he will think twice about going after someone’s employer. I’m not a violent person but then again I’ve never come across someone who’s trying to hurt my ability to feed myself.

Roosh, your pals and their acquaintances have contacted my workplace(s) and home numerous times. Check your facts. I’ve had to deal with it. Now, you need to quit whining and stop making up fantasies about me. Or don’t. I don’t care. You’ve always wanted the attention. And I’ve driven more traffic to your sad site than you ever have to mine. Most people I talk to in Washington don’t even know who you are.

P.S. It’s not harassment to write an e-mail. It is harassment to threaten a person with bodily harm.

Our pals, Amy and Rox ask a question today that just happens to be weighing heaviliy on our fluffy little ole big heads: “[W]hy aren’t these darned bloggers getting sued all the time? Heck, if we printed a fraction of the wild, unchecked, often untrue rumors they do, we’d spend all our time in court!”

What a timely moment to bring this issue up! A vast majority of your average, run-of-the-mill bloggers simply aren’t rooted in journalism, and therefore don’t know where the legal line is when reporting a story. We, ourselves, have reported several articles for mainstream publications about bloggers who’ve gotten themselves in trouble because they have absolutely no clue what they’re doing, beyond whispering, and then point and clicking. Our reporting - along with consultations with dozens of lawyers, both for journalistic and personal reasons - has helped give us the sensibility about where one can and cannot go, legally.   Read more…
