This e-mail went out from the Clinton camp, under Bill Clinton’s name, today:
Here’s the most important thing you need to know about this race: it’s neck-and-neck.
Only 130 delegates separate Hillary from Senator Obama — and that’s not counting Florida and Michigan. The difference in popular vote is less than 1 percent, and millions of voters have yet to make their voices heard. This election should be about their choice.
But now we’re hearing people - elected officials, party members, and Obama campaign surrogates - call for Hillary to pull out.
With the race this close, it sure doesn’t make sense to me that she’d leave now — does it make sense to you?
Thoughts?

Just a question. How do you count the popular vote from a state (Michigan) which had only on name on the ballot?
Is this America?
Better learn to count, Bill. Your lady is behind by 160 pledged delegates, and to make that up in pennsylvania, she’d have to take 100% of the vote. But then, there are only 300 superdelegates, so she’d have to take 2/3 of all the remaining superdelegates to make up a 100+ delegate deficit. Since Feb. 5, your lady hasn’t gained a single superdelegate. In fact, she’s lost 8. It’s over, Billary. One of these days, it’ll sink in, but it’s over.
Stay strong! Hillary go all of the way! I want my vote to count! Who in their right mind wouldn’t want their vote to count during this election. Geez…I guess those folks think the rest of us are NOT important enough to have our say. That’s what their “drop-out Hillary” message means to me.
Hillary Clinton 2008
This is a contest. Hillary is playing by the rules, but Obama and all of his supporters want the nomination to be handed to him on a silver platter. I think not!
Let’s see the superdelegates play their role in this contest, afterall, this is what they are there for.
Exciting isn’t it??!! Obama et al are afraid of losing.
Yes, we want it handed to him on a silver platter. That silver platter was voters who spoke up. It’s over. Hillary is going to gain maybe 10 delegates in Pennsylvania, and that will be offset just by North Carolina. So quit trying to act like Pennsylvania is more important than, you know, the rest of the friggin country!
Steady, …it is not unusual for the voting to actually be completed before you DEMAND that someone get out of the race. It is part of the Democratic party rules that the states get to vote to pick a candidate. It would do the party well to revote MI amd FI to prevent any allegations of voters not having their vote count..both candidates say they want all the votes to count, right? It would not be fair to throw Hillary out of the race at this point, and we has no precedent to do so.
I think that it is because she is a woman that she is the easier target …. and that people think after all the time and money and effort she should get out. When she officially loses(if) then she will have run the race. Hillary is no quitter. She has a responsibility to the people that are supporting her to continue on…
The party may need a fall back candidate if Obama combusts…which is still possible. To DEMAND that someone do what only 40% of the party members want is immature.
Cathy:
If Hillary is playing by the rules, then FL and MI should not count. If Obama wants to follow the rules, then all the votes should be counted and the superdelegates should vote for whoever they want.
Both candidates are extremely hypocritical. Both candidates want to follow the rules when it benefits them, and don’t want to follow the rules when it doesn’t.
So lets follow the rules.
There are 10 contests left, and about 300 superdelegates. Once all of these make up their minds, there will be a candidate with more than 2025 delegates and they will be the nominee. This should happen by July 1 to make sure our party has the time to prepare for John McCain.
THE CHICKENS ARE COMING HOME TO ROOST AND OBAMA IS GOING DOWN.
THE MEDIA HAS BEEN EXAMINING EACH AND EVERY TAPE FROM THE TRINITY UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST AND THE TAPES ARE COMING OUT NEXT WEEK THAT SHOW HIM SITTING IN THE PEWS LISTENING TO PASTOR JEREMIAH WRIGHT SPEWING THOSE HATEFUL ANTI WHITE, ANTI AMERICAN COMMENTS. THE FIRST WEEK OF APRIL WILL BE A BAD WEEK FOR OBAMA.
THE BIG WHOPPING LIES THAT OBAMA HAS TOLD SO GLIBLY WILL SOON BE EXPOSED TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE AND HE WILL SLOWLY SINK INTO THE QUICK SAND. CAN’T WAIT PEOPLE, CAN’T WAIT. NO HILLARY SHOULD NOT GET OUT AND THIS IS ONE REASON WHY NOT TO MENTION SHE WILL WIN THE POPULAR VOTE

Since you are obviously lacking in ownership of a history book, I will help you out a little. http://www.realchange.org/
Look at BOTH parties presidents and candidates. That is just a sampling. Bill Clinton was accused of RAPE and got reelected. You are going to have to do better than that. All of your TYPING IN CAPS isn’t going to make a damn.
Several points - when MI and FLA decided to do early primaries contrary to DNC rules, the Rules stated that they should lose one half their delegates. If the DNC had done that, there would have been real primaries in those states and the delegates would have been seated. Instead, the DNC decided to change the rules and disallow ALL delegates from those states. Only fair thing ro do is a revote. One name on the MI ballot makes that primary meaningless and it would not be fair to split FLA delegates 50-50 when Hillary has a big lead there.
Second, the superdelegates were put in place for just a situation like this one. If they were to vote according to the popular vote by necessity, it wouldn’t make sense to even have them. They should all vote their conscience. The Dems need a winner in November and right now neither candidate is better in that regard.
Last, Hillary should fight to the end - this is practically a tie and could go either way. Hillary should not get bullied out of this race. If she loses in April then that will be that. Besides, Mike Huckabee made a strong point by staying in the Rep race which was also closer than it looked (excepting for the manner in which the Reps divy up the delegates). It looks like not only is the country split in two, but the Dems and Reps are also split in two.

What a joke!!!
A joke… because you know it’s true?
Look, all the states can vote. There is no way that Hillary can come out on top. She needs to win every remaining state at 70% to come out ahead. It’s not going to happen, since she hasn’t won a single state at that rate, and she’ll likely lose most of the remaining contests. She’ll likely win Pennsylvania, Kentucky, W. Virginia, and Puerto Rico. She’ll likely lose the other six contests. So, they spend all of this extra money, and nothing is going to turn out any differently than what it is now.
The reason she should drop out now is so that she can start working on all of her supporters who are all buttsore that Hillary has lost. And she has. There’s no ifs and or buts about it. The race is over. Also, if she keeps pushing this, she could not only end up losing the nomination, but losing her senate seat as well, considering how her negatives are increasing by the day.
It is ridiculous to reqest that Sen. Clinton withdrwaw from the race when many states have yet to vote (add in Florida and Michigan too). Sen. Obama has not won one of the “blue states” that the Dem. party needs to win to come out on top in the general election in November (New Jersey, Massachusetts, Ohio, New York, California, Pennsylvania, and Florida). His campaign is a farce and his double standard with everything is dirty.
All the candidates signed the pledge. All the candidates knew MI and FL wouldn’t count. There won’t be a revote. At the end of the voting, it isn’t going to matter. FL and MI will eventually be seated and it won’t make a difference. Obama’s lead is that solid.
Primaries are not general elections, people, so get that into your heads. The Supreme Court upheld that political parties can make their own rules. No amount of fighting is going to get Florida and Michigan to make any difference. The lawsuit filed in Florida to get the votes to count was already thrown out of court.
Ah yes, that dumb line.
New Jersey, New York, California, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania would vote for a rock with a (D) painted on it for president, so that’s a stupid argument.
Ohio and Florida are not “blue” states. They are swing states, and just because Clinton won those doesn’t mean she’d win them in the general election. John Kerry won those states. How’d that work out for him?
First Lady Bill,
How bad is your memory??????
The reason Kerry lost is partly because he lost Ohio (you are weak). I am saying that if the Democratic candidate lost any of those states it is over. With Florida and Michigan angry that could make it even more difficult even if the Dem. won all the other large states.
JOHN KERRY WON BOTH OHIO AND FLORIDA IN THE PRIMARIES. HOW DID THAT WORK OUT IN THE GENERAL ELECTION????
Looks like Obama’s going to gain 9 more delegates today in Texas over the caucus night results.
Chris:
Will you admit then that Hillary Clinton flat out LIED to the people of NH when she told them “it’s clear these elections in MI and FL aren’t going to count for anything”?
Oh, and any Democrat will win NY, NJ, CA, MA. In fact recent polls show Obama faring better against McCain than Hillary. FL should not be counted in the Democratic states needed - it is not going to be close. Florida has moved solidly red in the past 4 years. I strongly believe Obama will win Pennsylvania in the general, and you’re kidding yourself if you think MI will ever go blue.
However polls also show that Hillary might not win CT, NH, Wisconsin or Nevada - and has no chance in VIrginia, NC or Iowa - all states that Obama is leading in.
Oh, and Al Gore didn’t lose to GWB because of Florida.
He lost because of NH.
Oh, and Al Gore didn’t lose to GWB because of Florida.
He lost because of NH.
—————
He lost because he didn’t win his own state - TN
Mcain will win VA, and NC

Seriously, I am very curious about your posting. It would make a lot of sense that the MSM would be doing this because they will do anything for a sensational story. It doesn’t matter whether or not it has merit. As long the MSM can continue to maintain as well as increase viewer ship, ratings and revenue they would throw their Anointed One under the bus. I don’t think fairness plays into their reporting.

Funny!! Obama will not have enough to clinch the nomination either, so what’s the big deal. Hillary can easily close the gap. Obama may turn out in the end to only have a slight lead over Clinton. Which brings in the superdelegates.
Cathy-
If you think it’s OK for the superdelegates to overturn the popular vote, then why are you arguing that it is so important for MI and Fl’s voices to be heard? If the superdelegates overturn the popular vote, none of our voices are heard. Kind of hypocritical, no?
MSNBC has the total delegate count at:
Obama: 1629
Clinton: 1506
There are somewhere around 600 delegates left to be awarded in primaries. If they split them in half, Obama needs only 96 of the 300 superdelegates to get to 2025. Clinton would need about 219 out of 300 to get to 2025.
Ain’t gonna happen! It’s O-V-E-R.
Bill didn’t you hear? We’re only counting States that Hillary won now.
=============================================================
No, not hypocritical…realistic. Anyway you spin this Hillary still has a very good chance of closing the gap and if the DNC wakes up and realizes that they must count FL and MI, Hillary can possible over turn Obama’s lead. So not sure why you’re bickering so much here? It’s all good.
OK that’s all good and well Cathy. If she does that I’d vote for her.
But I have an honest question. What if MI and FL are counted, and Hillary still does not have the lead in pledged delegates OR popular vote. Would you support the superdelegates overturning Obama’s lead and giving the nomination to Hillary?
If in fact, neither on has the required 2024 or 2025, the superdelegates have to make an informed decision. If it’s Obama I’ll accept that, if it is Hillary, I’ll accept that. It’s so funny how Obama et al want to just end the race and disenfranchise the rest of us. What is everyone so worried about? Obama et al are hollering so much about the math count. Give it a rest, relax, and let the contest continue. This is history in the making. Nothing wrong with that.
Cathy - Obama said today that Hillary has no reason to drop out, and I support that. There is no reason to end the race, as long as supporters on both sides are not becoming SO hateful of the other side that they would never vote for them. I may be an Obama supporter, but Hillary would be 100x better than John McCain. Unfortunately, I feel that the longer this goes on, the more people (specifically Hillary supporters) are saying they won’t vote for the opponent but for McCain. I don’t think people realize how scary and horrible John McCain would be for this country.
That being said, I do think that it is hypocritical to say that MI and FL must count, but if at the end of the day half a million more people have voted for one candidate, the superdelegates should overturn this because some magic number was not reached. If you care about the people’s votes counting they should count no matter what. If you don’t, then what does it matter if MI and FL count.
===============================================================
You shouldn’t worry so much Jon. If the race continues, it keeps both parties involved in the process. Keeping all democrats involved in this historic event. I know in the end that the party will come together. The superdelegates will make a good decision and perhaps that decision will include the “Dream Ticket”, then the democrats will win for sure in November.
Just another note Jon. The popular vote gap will most likely narrow as we go along, so it is fair to say, that if the margin is like only a few percent between both candidates, no one can gripe about what the superdelegates do. Afterall, look at what Richardson did.
What people are worried about is that it could be time to move on.
McCain’s running around making retarded statements, and he’s getting a free pass right now. He doesn’t know the difference between Iran and Al Qaeda, he has no idea what to do about the economy, and nobody’s getting on him.
Oh, and as if winning the most delegates, most states, and the popular vote wouldn’t be enough for the superdelegates, in head to head matchups, Obama beats McCain, McCain beats Clinton:
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/president/national.html
Also, there is no way Clinton will catch up in the popular vote. Obama’s lead in the popular vote is about 825,000. With only about 5 million votes left to be cast, Clinton would (as I said) need to take almost 70%. She’d need close to 3 million of those 5 million votes. She didn’t even take over 60% in her home state of New York. She’s not going to take 70% of the rest of the states.
Obama has even stated that Clinton should stay in the race. This is a smart move on his part because it adds credibility to him as a candidate if he wins the nomination. Neither candidate will have enough delegates to hit the magic number of 2024 after all the primaries. It is a close race and if either candidate were to drop out then it would be premature. All americans should be allowed to vote. Things will work themselves out. Obama will be a weaker candidate if Clinton drops out now. McCain will win easily.
What people are worried about is that it could be time to move on.

You sure do have the stats…As this continues, the democrats will be getting all of the air time, not McCain. Almost everyone is going to know more about both the democrat candidates and not very much about McCain. McCain will be an after thought. So, I believe, the longer this goes on for the democrats, the worse it gets for McCain. Besides McCain knows NOTHING about this economy. Like Hillary said, think long and hard on your decision, we do want another Republican in the White House.
And…contrary to what Obama et al thinks about Hillary Clinton…she will make sure this party is unified in the end. But I’m not too sure that Obama would be that nice about it.
Well, that’s a pretty biased statement, there, if I’ve ever seen one.
There are two problems with that. #1, yes he would. #2, though, Obama gets a lot of support from independents, who wouldn’t likely vote for Clinton, and trying to explain party unity to them would be a futile endeavor, since they belong to no party.

And your statement is biased as well. Bottom line is, the race needs to continue in order to MAINTAIN party unity. This party will be divided is anyone tries to disenfranchise those of us who are left to cast our vote throughout the country.

This goes for BOTH Clinton voteres and Obama voters. No bias statement here.
Cathy you won’t have to worry. Doesn’t look like the campaign has the money to go on much longer. Too bad.

NO MATTER WHAT YOU SAY ABOUT BILL , HE WAS THE BEST PRESIDENT IN A LONG WHILE LOOK AT THE MILLIONS OF JOBS, HE CREATED , ALSO WHEN HE CAME INTO OFFICE THERE WAS A HUGH BAL WAS OWED, WHEN HE LEFT WE HAD A SURPLUS OF TRILLIANS, NOW LOOK WHERE WE ARE,
IT TOOK A CLINTON TO GET OU OUT OF A HOLE FROM THE FIRST BUSH
IT WILL TAKE A CLINTON TO GET US OUT OF HOLE FROM THE 2ND BUSH.
NO HILLARY SHOULD NOT GET OUT, SHE CAN WIN IF ALL IS HONEST,
THEY DID NOT PLEDGE THEY WOULD NOT COUNT THE VOTES HILLARY PLEDGED SHE WOULD NOT CAMPAIGN, IN FL. AND MICHIGAN
Yes. Bill created tons of jobs… in MEXICO.
Your info is dramatically wrong. Bill created an annual surplus at the end of his term, but over the course of the 8 years, he left office with a larger federal deficit than he inherited. The national debt went from 4 trillion to 6 trillion under Clinton. He wiped out the budget deficit. The national debt GREW by 50% under Clinton.
By percentages, Clinton was actually worse for the debt than Bush. Bush took it from 6 trillion to 9 trillion, or 33%.
Actually, my math was off. Bush grew it by 50% of where it started, too. So Clinton’s economics were exactly as bad as Bush’s.
Hillary should definetly stay in the race. You got to fight for what you beleive in.If that was Obama he would want those votes from fla and michigan to count. If Hillary doesn’t get the nomination I will have no choice but to vote for Mccain.
Like I said before Ali, good for you. More war should help you sleep better at night. When the body count gets to 5000, you can pat yourself on the back and say, “job well done.”
In fact, if you are under the age of 36, why don’t you hop on down to the Army recruiting office and help fight terror? Hopefully you will be put on the front line. Crossing my fingers!
Yeah, she’s “fighting for what she believes in.” She will burn the village to save herself.
