house90.jpgKentucky Rep. Tim Couch has filed a bill aimed at making anonymous commenting on Web sites illegal.

“The bill would require anyone who contributes to a Web site to register their real name, address and e-mail address with that site,” according to press reports. “Their full name would be used anytime a comment is posted.”

A Web site owner would have to pay a fine if someone posted anonymously on their site, if the bill were to become law. Under the plan a first-time offense fine would be $500, and a Web site owner would have to pay $1,000 for each subsequent offense.

Couch said he hopes to cut down online bullying.

This guy Tim Couch is a Republican, of course. What an idiot!

Bloggers can control their own sites now, and many do to prevent trolls. Sounds like Couch’s proposed law would penalize bloggers for comments filed with false addresses. And how would this proposed law be enforced? A big more government oversight of the “internets”?

Too bad this Rep isn’t interested in preventing the actions of international bullies, like maybe that fool in the White House.

Online bullying is a safe way to vent ones frustrations. If an individual or public in general , isn’t allowed to open up the pissed-valve once in a while, then they may just end up grabbing a picket sign and start heading to the nearest group protest where they can blow-off the steam live and in person.
As a matter of fact, I think Couch’s law would be a great motivator. Thanks, Timmy.

Oh puleeze. Nothing is ‘anonymous’ anymore in the modern surveilance age. They quite literally have been spying on EVERYTHING for years but just want to make it ‘legal’ as well as discourage dissent. They tap your phone, open your mail, can do ’snaek’ searches of house, office, etc. and monitor all bank transactions yet they want even MORE. And doctors and school officials interrogate kids as to their parents behavior. Cellphones can be used as tracking devices and remote listening devices. Computer cameras can be remotely activated. TIA is alive and well under Admiral Poindexter. Next they’ll want to put cameras in everyone’s homes. Paranoia strikes deep, into your life it will creep. It starts when your always afraid.

This guy is an idiot, there are reasons for anonymity on some sites. For example: the legal practice of shunning family members because they choose to leave cults such as Jehovah’s Witnesses causes some to remain incognito while receiving support from others on some discussion boards. Make the destruction of families illegal if you want to cut down on bullying. No one is forced to post on a website, if you can’t take the heat get out of the kitchen. Bullying? Give me a break.

I think that all these stupid laws should apply to just the people the purpose of limited gov was set up to do, apply laws to regulate government and government workers. Pass the dang law, were gonna figure out how to apply all of them to who they are meant to apply to. The only people that need regulated, the GOVERNMENT and all you wonderful employees at work, working for the gov. there has to be a way to keep track of you.
