No matter the good feelings Barack Obama causes many in the Democratic Party to feel, many Dems today can’t help but note the importance of the substantial number of voters - over 850,000 - who turned out to vote for Hillary Clinton in yesterday’s Florida primary. And this happened despite well-publicized reports before the election that the Democratic National Committee did not plan to count any of the votes in awarding delegates. Some are now saying that it is obvious that the party will have to reverse its decision. After all, almost a million voters made their choice be known by a wide-margin (Clinton’s 50 percent to Obama’s 33 percent), and many feel that back room politicking, aimed at appeasing Iowa and New Hampshire delegates, should not disenfranchise these voters. Especially in a state with Florida’s infamous history.
Big Head DC e-mailers are also asking why the Florida and Michigan Democratic primaries were even allowed by the DNC to be held in the first place, if the voters in these states were not going to have their votes counted. As one commenter asked us, “Is it really voting, if it’s just pacification?”
