The Florida Secretary of State, in a controversial move, began releasing GOP presidential contest results in the state just after the 7:00 p.m. ET hour today. Several networks, in turn, displayed the early numbers, which showed John McCain with a slight lead. The problem with this scenario is that some people in Florida’s panhandle region are still voting until 8:00 p.m. Also, in light of the many reporting mistakes made during the 2000 presidential election in the state, many network officials declared they wouldn’t release early poll numbers until after the polls were actually closed.
