We’re hearing lots of talk today regarding how badly the New York Observer’s Felix Gillette missed the mark with his positive story on Jon Klein’s new signature of a four-year contract extension to remain as president of CNN.
As one wag explained to Big Head DC regarding Gillette, “He’s not really plugged in on the beat to begin with but he mailed this one in. It’s one thing to do a lay down for a network president who’s actually successful, but is there a bigger failure in news right now than Jon (de)-Klein? Most people were baffled over how CNN even renewed his contract this week with the ratings having fallen even further since he took over and the fact that he’s now fighting a two front war with FOX and MSNBC.”
The network with the most to benefit from Klein’s extended tenure would appear to be MSNBC. In fact, Big Head DC hears that staffers there were literally chanting “4 More Years!” when word got out that Klein had re-signed!
