That breathless post today from FishbowlDC editor Patrick Gavin, stating that “The Hill’s Editor in Chief, Hugo Gurdon, has called a rare all-staff meeting for tomorrow, saying that there’s ‘lots to discuss’”? Full of hot air. Gurdon tells Big Head DC that “it’s just a regular editorial staff meeting of the sort we try to have about once a month.” But you gotta wonder: who is that Hill newsroom source who always feeds Gavin the false leads? And what is his or her intention?
How are you sure that Gurdon is being honest with you? If this was a big meeting dealing with important matters, why would he admit it to you? How can you assume you’re right just because Gurdon said what he said? Poor journalistic form, Rob.
Ha! I bet Fishbowl didn’t even ask Gurdon.
Let’s just say I have more trust in what Gurdon says — and I’ve worked with both Gurdon and Gavin.
Maybe not, but that doesn’t mean that they’re wrong. After all, if this a full staff meeting to discuss important issues, it’s in Gurdon’s best interest for that to stay in house and not be fodder for other publications. Rob is putting lots of faith in an EIC whose main interest may be to keep people from knowing that this meeting is happening.
Rob, the way you seem to lash out at people you used to work with (Gavin, The Politico), how are we to know that Gurdon trusts you and takes you seriously? For all we know, he fed you a line and you believed it. Your bit is no better than Gavin’s. You didn’t seek second-party confirmation that this is a regular staff meeting, did you?
For all you know, I’m sitting in on the staff meeting tomorrow. We tell the truth about people in this town, whether I’ve worked with them or not. Why do you think we’re making such progress in the rankings?
Well, you never posted open traffic rankings like Sitemeter (why not?), so we don’t know that you’ve made “such progress.” Why not post Sitemeter stats?
For all we all know, you’re most likely not sitting in on that meeting. It is a convinient argument, though, for someone who just got caught doing exactly what they accuse Gavin of. Consistency simply isn’t your strong point, Rob.
Everybody knows that one of Gavin’s “girls” inside The Hill feeds him the memos.
Do tell how Big Head DC hasn’t been consistent.
Umm, easy. You criticize people for making the same mistakes you make. The post is but one example. (Gavin gets one source for a claim; you criticize him by getting only one source yourself.) You’ve also mocked other bloggers for petty and personal things, even when you have complained of it being done to you. And this morning you made a bit of a boo boo by failing to close a bold tag, yet you made fun of Fishbowl for making a small mistake on a poll. Seems like a lack of consistency, plain and clear.
And you always dodge the issue of Sitemeter stats? Why not own up and make them available?

Really, Mockette, really? You’re “on staff” and you don’t even know who your “boss” is interviewing. Could it be that he’s not in NYC at all? Or that if he is, he’s not interviewing anyone of note?
