With the Internet abuzz of rumors that the LA Times is holding a devastating politico sex scandal story, new word is coming from the newspaper that President Bush recently met with several reporters in a rare off-the-record session.
The information disseminated in the Monday meeting cannot be reported, under terms of an agreement reached by the White House and fourteen elite Washington reporters.
White House press secretary Dana Perino is quoted as saying the effort was a way “to be creative to try to provide some access to the president” short of full-blown news conferences.
“It was just a new tool we’d like to have in our toolbox,” she told the LAT.

The Bush press conference was held to get some favorable coverage regarding the Mukasey nomination and current gridlock with Congress—according to several news stories published today. It had zero to do with any pending sex scandal. The next sex scandal will involve a member of Congress who is being revealed for hypocrisy by Larry Flynt–and that will likely lead to another Congressional resignation or retirement. But the Bush press conference is not related to the Congressional incident. There is no connection.
Who are your sources, thefrontpage? The DC Madam has long said that Dick Cheney may be on her list…and sources are saying that this new scandal is creating a “fever pitch.”
