LA Times Assistant Editorial Pages Editor Matt Welch is saying he knows nothing about a sex scandal story the newspaper is supposedly holding that will rock one of the presidential candidate’s worlds:
I can tell you the following — I have never, ever, ever, never, ever, ever, ever heard anything about this. And I spent last week in Washington DC, worked in the LAT bureau, went to parties with LAT muckety-mucks, and gossiped with dozens of people who cover presidential politics; none of whom ever so much as mentioned anything about it. Rosenbaum’s single, anonymous source is most certainly wrong, at least about the “everyone knows” part. He also most certainly is wrong that the same “everyone” apparently “doesn’t know what to do with it” — seasoned political journalists are not helpless bystanders in the face of juicy rumors, they are specifically trained to go out and investigate them, and report when relevant.
As for Rosenbaum’s agonizing over “reporting” such a thing, I don’t have much respect for it. Either report or don’t; save us the handwringing about stooping to “Web 2.0″ whateverthehell.
You can quote me on all of that.
Several bloggers are already saying that Welch may be covering for the paper. One predominant thought in the conservative part of the blogosphere is that the scandal, if there is one, must involve a Democrat. The thinking is that since the news media is supposedly liberal, the LA Times would have published the story by now if it focused on a Republican.
Hey dummies, go read Matt Welch if you think he’s a conservative.

What the hell: “since the news media is supposedly liberal?” What kind of idiotic, juvenile, generalized statement is that? There are literally thousands and thousands of people working in journalism across the United States–and literally thousands who are conservative in their political thinking. No one can just blatantly say the “news media is liberal.” That’s ridiculous, irresponsible–and childish. Come on. And The Los Angeles Times does not “hold” or “run” stories based on political affiliation–that’s ridiculous thinking, also. Come on–join the real world.

Larry Flynt is ready to out another Senator about a sex scandal. He only outs Republican Senators. The LA Slimes must be holding back a scandal involving a Democrat candidate. If Hillary knew one on Obama, should would have leaked by now and Edwards rumor has been out there. It is probably Hillary and her lesbian tendencies. What’s the big deal? Everyone knows she is a lesbian anyway.
