The GOP presidential candidate has long wanted to be perceived as vigorous (recall his unintentionally hilarious TV ad from August that saw him jogging like a robot). Recently, he asserted his strength by literally running away from a wheelchair-bound guy on the campaign trail who asked a question about legalized marijuana. Somehow we don’t think this is the imagery Mitt (or his increasingly tense handlers) wanted to convey:

It’s good to see that Mit treats those in wheelchairs no differently than able-bodied people. After all isn’t that the main premise with the ADA, equal treatment?
It figures that the weirdos who are in favor of legalizing marijuana (which by the way, he is full of it, there is no adjudicated clinical trial that proves the efficacy of it!) would use a cripple to hound a conservative!

This guy is a weirdo just because he sits in a wheel chair? And he’s a “cripple”? I beg your pardon.

The gentleman in the wheelchair said he was against widespread legalization of marijuana and that he wants it legalized for serious medical problems to help him cope with the pain of muscular dystrophy. Doctors should be open to all forms of treatment for serious disorders. Maybe if there aren’t any clinical trials that prove the effectiveness they haven’t tried hard enough? Get out of the 50s and start looking into the future.

The Canadian government has legalized medical use of marijuana - but what do those weirdos know about decent health care!
Wonder of wonders that a camera shows up to film a dope smoker question. Why not take the drug by needle instead of killing your lungs?
Actually, marijuana is effective when vaporized or taken orally. Both of these methods have been shown–through repeated trials–to carry no additional health risks whatsoever. So many “dope smokers,” as you put it, are not smokers at all. And why not film someone asking about MM? Not only did it capture an embarrassing reaction, but immigrants and Iraq are hardly the sole issues affecting the country right now. It’s nice when the media occasionally reminds us of that.

Actually, Scott, your lack of knowledge is hurting you more than anyone’s herbal stash. It’s true that no study condoned by our government has demonstrated benefits to marijuana. Yet nearly every study performed by an independent scientist or a more impartial nation has proven the opposite. Time and time again, it’s been shown that marijuana remedies the pain or symptoms of Alzheimer’s, AIDS, glaucoma, cancer, and mental illnesses like depression. I’ve met quite a few “weirdos” with prescriptions, and they always manage to make more sense than a government that pushes the truth under the rug.
Who cares if the guy was asking about marijuana?! A politician should KNOW that you just don’t turn your back to a person in a wheelchair…it’s the equivalent of kicking, rather than kissing, a baby.
What else did this guy want? He told him he wasn’t in support of it… This wasn’t a debate forum. He said I do not support medicinal marriuana… END of story… Camera man obviously was there in set up with the handicapped individual and looking for a story… That was all…
/Just because someone is handicapped, doesn’t mean they cant be an @$$hole
Sleazy politician rule #1: Never answer the question asked, answer the question you wished had been asked. (i.e. the question that doesn’t make you out to be the self-righteous a-hole that you actually are). So when the handicapped man asked:
Would you arrest me and my doctors if I get medical marijuana?
Romney answered as though the guy had asked:
Are you in favor of legalizing marijuana?
Of course, these are two totally different questions with completely different implications. Romney is a seasoned politician, so he followed the Q&A rule to a ‘T’: if a question exposes him to be the heartless, idiotic ideologue that he is, pretend the question was something that lets him seem strong to his base. This isn’t an excuse, it’s a description of the machinations behind an ambitious, amoral prick like Romney.
what are you idiots braying about? He answered the cripples question…”I do not support medical marijuana.” Hate him for his answer, not for some made up bullshiat about ignoring cripples. Just becasue someone is handicapped doesn’t mean they can’t be assholes.

I think that people are ignoring the fact that he did provide an answer to the man’s question. “He is not for the legalization of medical marijuana.” In a room full of that many people he only has so much time with each person to be fair to all those that attend. He provided an answer and moved on to greet others. If people want to look at this and say that he was running from the question, that is their opinion. As far as the are you going to arrest me question that he wanted addressed, last time I checked Romney wasnt carrying a badge and gun.
It probably just a case of Mitt’s programmers not anticipating this question. Mittbot 2.0 will have new algorithms to address issues like this, and may even introduce new functions like emotion and self awareness. And they called Al Gore a robot, jeez. Seriously,
this man seems the epitomy of evil, probably sees himself as a prophet here to bring on the final battle before Jesus (Or Joseph Smith?)appears again to take his children home. Na, we got one of them aleady. Faith based leadership, do you really want more.
Something I’ve never been able to understand is the fact that people are so against even allowing marijuana to be legalized only for medical purposes, yet there are FAR worse and far more addictive drugs (amphetamine) that are legal for medical purposes.
A lot of you seem vehenemently against the legalization of Marijuana. Why? Seriously, give me one good reason for how some guy smoking pot in his home negatively affects you. If you argue that pot is just bad for you and fu
I think that people are ignoring the fact that he did provide an answer to the man’s question.
Uh, no he didn’t. He didn’t answer the question at all. He answered the question he wished the handicapped man asked, not the one he actually did. That’s the point. Read my explanation above.
Here’s another way of looking at it. “If you were attacked without reason by a man wielding a sharp knife and you had a gun, would you take his life to save your own?”
“I am against murder.”
That doesn’t answer the question in the slightest. This creates the appearance of answering the question without actually answering it. It avoids honesty in favor of covering your ass. It’s a game slimy, amoral pricks play all the time.
While its unfortunate the guy has this disease, he did answer his question. He probably spent more time with him than most people in that line by the looks of it. It was a setup from the beginning. They went in knowing what he would answer and just trying to make him look bad. Which they didnt accomplish. He answered the guys question, they didnt like the answer. And as far as Mitt arresting them, i dont think Mitt is running for chief of police anywhere, he running for the President of the US, so no, he will not be arresting you either.

The guy was not disrespectful to Mitt in any way.

The real asshole is that douche in the wheelchair.

Looks like this is where a lot of red-necks hang out. The war of drugs is a war against the people!

Whatever; all Dems are Dbags anyway.
MItt answered his question. Just because they didn’t like his answer doesn’t mean he has to stay and continue to the conversation. suck it libs

I agree with your analysis, Mark, but there was a more gracious way to deflect.
You really think that camera dude and wheelchair boy are real?
Sure there is, but that would assume the politician you’re talking to isn’t an ambitious amoral prick.

What’s marihauna? Is that Canadian weed?
Is this the 18th century?
Let’s posit for a moment that they are real. Now what do you say, foolish boy?

suck it libs! no legalized marijuana for you! drugo.
He’s not an officer of the law, and will therefore not be “arresting” anyone.

The real clue to what Mitt Romney was doing was he wants to make money off of the guy in the wheelchair. Truly I have proof.
He mentioned the synthetic drug marinol right? He didnt mention it by name but he knew to promote it. You want to know why?
Romney was just pushing his own drug. Marinol. Mitt Romney has gotten alot of contributions from the chemical company chairman of Dow Chemicals
see this link
http://www.newsmeat.com/ceo_political_donations/William_Stavropoulos.php
and guess what company is making marinol with dow? Solvay in Belgium
http://news.dow.com/dow_news/prodbus/2006/20060927a.htm
I knew if I looked I could folow the path of money.
Mitt just wants everyone to buy his drug not a natural one where he cant make any money off of it.
If he says oh I get contributions from many companies, trust me a dealer knows his product. and he was pushing it on a sick guy in a wheelchair.
