Today in media elite sightings, a tipster says that he or she caught Patrick Gavin, of Fishbowl DC and Examiner fame, huffing and puffing in an apparent attempt to slim down. From the always-anonymous tip box:
I just saw Patrick Gavin jogging through the streets of Glover Park, trying (desperately) to get in shape.
Three observations:
1. Total fashion victim. Who jogs in basketball shorts and a huge headband other than my grandfather??
2. He is VERY overweight. At least 260 pounds. Fat legs and everything.
3. I hope he made it home alive. The way he was sweating and huffing, I got a little scared for him.
Well! At least he’s trying, which is more than we can say for his attempts at gossip blogging most days. Right?
I bet he stopped for cheeseburgers and a six pack of Old Milwaukee after his jog!
But, seriously, Rob, I’m a little worried about him after reading this. Can you call and make sure he made it home alive?

Er…last time I saw photos of you, you weren’t looking all that svelte yourself, Big Belly…er…Head Rob.
Here’s an idea. Why not join Gavin on his runs? Aside from getting some much-needed exercise, he might be able to give you a few pointers about how to break into the blogging biz.
Good idea, Masked Blogger! I could run with Patrick Gavin! But could I run in the same circles as him? ;-)
It sounds like Latrick Lavin was pretty much running in place. Such a great metaphor for his life!!!
In all seriousness, the rapid weight gain can’t be good for his heart. He has packed on at least 60 pounds in less than a year.
60? When I saw him at the last blogger meet-up, he looked like he’d gained at least 95 pounds.
No more than 75 lbs. But he is gaining it funny, I agree. Legs and bottom are disproportionately large for a male.
Nope. I was at that blogger meetup too, and Patrick Gavin had put on at least 88 pounds since last year.
When you lose a spouse to cancer and have a parent dealing with a debilitating illness, I think you are more than entitled to gain a few pounds. However, if your full-time job is hobnobbing with the media and political elite — and you are always spotted with a drink in your hands — you have no excuse.
