Big Head DC hears that Maria Bartiromo, CNBC’s perennial “money honey,” is quite dismayed by some remarks Chris Matthews made regarding Republicans at last week’s 10th anniversary Hardball bash. The financial reporter is scheduled to co-host a GOP presidential debate along with Matthews on Tuesday night, to be aired on both CNBC and MSNBC.
TV news insiders tell us that Bartiromo is concerned that Matthews’ statements could hurt ratings for the debate, and she’s already apparently received some blow back from conservatives regarding the situation.
“God help us if we had Cheney during the Cuban missile crisis,” Matthews was quoted as saying last week regarding the vice president. “We’d all be under a parking lot.” He added that the VP’s office has called MSNBC honchos many times to complain about the content of his program.
“They’ve finally been caught in their criminality,” Matthews continued.
Bartiromo had hoped that the debate would shine a positive spotlight on her network with the launch date of a new competitor, FOX Business Network, fast approaching. However, now she’s left worrying whether her association with Matthews will damage her future reporting efforts and her chances at scoring scoops with GOP lawmakers.

Good for Maria, she should be worried. Mathews is now a liability for both CNBC and MSNBC. He should step aside for this debate and allow someone with more credibility to standin with Maria. If he doesn’t, people will NOT watch.
I agree with Bill, but take his argument a step further. Matthews should be removed altogether from the NBC lineup. What he said is outrageous.
Good for Chris Matthews–he only said what everyone else is thinking. Dick Cheney’s been one of the worst vice presidents in history. Did anyone read the Post series? Enough said. And who cares about setting some odd “positive” tone for some debates? If anything, hosts and moderators need to be TOUGHER and they need to ask the TOUGH questions. It’s not a dern party or social gathering–it’s a DEBATE about tough issues. This woman is way off base for criticizing Chris Matthews–she should be praising him for his candor and his honesty.
Then why does Matthews pretend to be unbiased?
Matthews spoke the truth and now the GOP is whining. Again. Media Matters, where are you?

Your sock puppeting is getting a little lax again, Rob. Seriously, you wait 15 minutes or so in between posts, I guarantee they’ll look a lot more authentic.
When our items are farked, like this one was, Masked Blogger, several comments tend to pour in at once. ;-)
Great post!!!
[…] Just Friends | GOP Logo Gets an Extreme Gay Makeover | Chris Matthews Drunk Rumors Re-Surface Can Matthews Get the Foot Out of His Mouth? Tuesday October 9th, 2007 10:27 AM by BHDC Staff Filed under: MSNBC, ChrisMatthews, GOP, CNBC, Maria Bartiromo Chris Matthews attempted to calm Maria Bartiromo’s fears this morning. Somehow we just don’t think his defense of his controversial words about the GOP will do the trick. But it might increase his book sales…Especially if one of the Republican candidates confronts him about the controversy during the live debate he’s co-hosting with Bartiromo on CNBC and MSNBC tonight. […] Or maybe, just maybe, Abrams is upset that Chris gets to sit next to the Money Honey tonight while he’s stuck carrying boxes over to 30 Rock. […]
remember the good ol’ days when man crusher matthews was busting a boner over GI george bush and his package? i loved those good ol’ unbiased days.
This morning I heard Matthews spout off his mouth again, saying Hillary may get the nomination because voters feel sorry for her and because she stayed with a cheating husband. Now,I know he is embarrassed because his brother caught him enjoying Hillary’s pat on the cheek, but this was going too far. She does not get anything because of Bill’s cheating, but she fights for everything in spite of his cheating. I like Obama too, but question his judgement in choosing battles to be fought at this time, so I say: YOU GO, GIRL.
