After a ho-hum interview by his wife Kathleen Matthews on Thursday night’s show, some D.C. media insiders were wondering privately if the Chris Matthews 10th anniversary Hardball bash would live up to all the hype (Patrick Gavin, after all, has been peeing his pants over this one).
Well, we were there, and can answer definitively: yes AND no. Some big politico “names” did not show, which was disappointing for Chris, but lots of people, including Sen. Ted Kennedy, told him they simply adore his new book Life’s a Campaign, copies of which were readily available for purchase at the decked-out Decatur House (which was kinda crass, if you ask us). Several TV types also told Chris that they thought Jon Stewart was much too hard on him during his recent Daily Show debacle, but just as many were whispering that the clobbering was just what the doctor ordered to tame his ever-growing ego.
The biggest question of the evening was what exactly the somewhat grumpy Chris was drinking. Since being diagnosed with diabetes last winter, the docs have told him he must lay off the booze. But some people swear they smelled a little liquor on the big talker’s breath as he took the opportunity to loudly and proudly berate Dick Cheney to a somewhat astonished crowd, filled with folks who knew he’ll be hosting a GOP presidential debate in less than a week. Maybe it was just his cologne?

Everyone close to Chris always likes to SAY he stopped drinking long ago, but EVERY time he’s ACTUALLY seen in person, it’s a different story. You don’t get bloated like that from M&M’s alone. And my copy of the book was NOT free.
If someone offered me Matthews’ book for free, I wouldn’t take it. Not because it sucks (though I’m sure it does) but because whoever Photoshopped his picture on the cover made him look really creepy. His smile looks like this guy:
Jon Stewart thought the book sucked so bad during his interview with Matthews that I could almost smell Tucker Carlson’s ass.
Matthews’ unwatched show remains mired in a humiliating FOURTH place out of FIVE shows, and Matthews gets a whopping 1/4 the audience of his Fox News competitor. The latest abysmal ratings for Matthews:

This sentence says the doctors were diagnosed with diabetes. Why would they care how much Chris Matthews drinks; they have their own troubles.
Maybe the docs have diabetes, too. Which would make this all the more scandalous, no?
If this guy isn’t drunk, then my husband doesn’t beat me.
His only mistake was making the anti-conservative comments BEFORE he hosts the GOP debate next week. What an idiot. Fox is all over him today.

u guys blasting Matthews are idiots! The ratings that you posted are a complete lie. Maybe in ONE demo Matthews was fourth, but the BUYING demo he did much better…not to mention the 7pm HARDBALL is a REPEAT of 5pm…and his book is really good. I AM A FOX WATCHING REPUBLICAN (usually)….but the lies listed here are too much to ignore.
