A University of Florida student was tasered and arrested after trying to ask U.S. Sen. John Kerry about the 2004 election and other subjects during a campus forum. He’ll soon appear in court, according to local news reports.
“Videos of the incident posted on several Web sites show officers pulling Andrew Meyer, 21, away from the microphone after he asks Kerry about impeaching President George W. Bush and whether he and Bush were both members of the secret society Skull and Bones at Yale University.”
“He apparently asked several questions — he went on for quite awhile — then he was asked to stop,” university spokesman Steve Orlando said. “He had used his allotted time. His microphone was cut off, then he became upset.”
That is an absurd use of force.
you’re pretty cool now John! If u cant handle some words, i guess just sic some cops on em and then taze em.
The kid is being called a hippie and an asshole in the media for speaking up. He had the right to be heard.
He went too far. The cops went too far. So two wrongs make a right!? Why is this blow back on John Kerry? This was an inept security force #$%^up. This guy is starved for attention - he got it. And all you defenders of public idiocy - well if someone did this to you, you’d be scared to death, running away like hell and wetting your pants.
as far as I am concerned, kerry is a guest speaker, not a superior. the kid is not a guest to the school and should be treated with more respect. im not saying he should have resisted police officers in any way. but it would have been a much more interesting video if they let him finish his questions and then we’d be able to hear kerry’s explanation or lack-there-of
do i feel bad for the kid? no way, he has a story he can tell for the rest of his life with video to back it up.
i guess the next time we want to exercise our freedom of speech, we should consider the freedom of 10 officers dog piling us and zapping us into submission.

John Kerry at a campus forum, the institution’s president said Tuesday. Police are trying to defend themselves by saying Meyer acted lighthearted after his arrest.
