UPDATE: In a Huff, Alex Pareene Goes On Vacay

Big Head DC is hearing that the co-editor of Wonkette, Alex Pareene, has decided to take an unexpected vacation from his usual blog snark to travel back to his home state of Minnesota in an attempt to recover his wits. (Now that’s a family intervention we’d pay to sit it on!)

Josh Fruhlinger, a sometimes contributor to the site and a popular Engadget writer, is filling in — something that we may be seeing more regularly, if this increasingly eccentric Pareene character can’t get it together soon.

The exit definitely comes at a strange time: Wonkette launched a much lauded redesign last week that, insiders say, left Pareene very unhappy. Is this just one more sign the NYU dropout is tiring of his tenuous tenure? We shall see…

UPDATE, 5:45 p.m.: Radar Online catches a big reporting mistake by Wonkette today.

‘Wonkette wasn’t like this when Ana Marie Cox ran it. It was satirical, clever and threw in expletives and sexual references occasionally. Worlds like “fuck” and “shithead” weren’t being thrown around like a 12 yr old that just discovered the word. Pareene has run it into the ground. It used to be 8,000 on Alexa and now it’s in a free fall, currently at 25,000.’

But the Josh Fruhlinger who writes for Engadget is a differnt guy. Yes, believe it or not, there are two of us, and we’re both bloggers. But Engadget is a Weblogs, Inc. property — surely nobody would be allowed to write for both them and a Gawker property? Horrors!
