If anyone still cares about the NHL, it should be the D.C. United. The Capitals new alt eagle logo looks a lot like the bird that’s adorned the United’s unis for years. Will this new logo be able to fly after a call from the soccer club’s legal team?
Aren’t they both owned by Ted Leonsis? If so, wouldn’t it be immaterial?
Doogie: No they are not. Leonsis obviously owns the Caps, United is owned by a consortium of Victor MacFarlane, Brian Davis and Christian Laetter’s company, and William Chang. I don’t know if there is enough to bring a suit but they do look a lot alike.
I really liked the new Caps logo until I realized it DOES look a lot like the DC United. It’s too bad becuase it’s so nice to have the Caps back in RED WHITE AND BLUE!

That new eagle is 100% better than the garbage that the team has been using since 1996, which looked like a bad attempt at designing a logo for the 1880s. What boggles the mind is why they returned to that collection of toothpicks known as the original logo. DC has got some of the worst looking logos for sports teams in the country, except for the DC United logo and this new Caps eagle. The Wizards logo looks like a swastika with an Islamic crescent, the Redskins logo speaks for itself, and the Nationals logo is pure boredom.
If I were Leonsis, I would have slapped that new bird on everything immediately, including right in the centre of the jerseys. It jumps right out at you, and includes all the elements (the team’s initial, location, and colours) one needs in a good basic emblem. That skinny old word logo screams 1975, no matter how they rework it, and should be discarded entirely.
