A Big Head DC operative writes in to say that he wishes President Bush knew as much about being president as he does about the Detroit Tigers. You see, the team’s top pitcher, Justin Verlander, got to spend 20 minutes in the Oval Office with Bush on Wednesday thanks to a well-connected pal who knows a top White House adviser.
Bush, perhaps fondly remembering his days as the owner of the Texas Ranger from 1989-94, congratulated Verlander on his recent no-hitter and then posed for pictures.
“He’s a big baseball fan - he pretty much knew everybody on the team,'’ Verlander said after the meeting. He added that it was very special.
