Just a side question: But is her hair naturally gray like a skunk in the front, or does she dye it that way? It’s certainly distracting, but maybe that’s what she’s going for?

It isn’t Matthew’s mistake–he was talking to the others in the room during a commercial break, and the camera came-on without notice.

My guess is that any issue wouldn’t be over this single instance, but that it may be representative of some ongoing quality issues?

He still is the one who said it. I doubt it is a ongoing quality issue. She’s been around a long time and has a good rep. Methinks Matthews chauvinism is showing again.

Methinks that Tammy Haddad has gotten a little too comfortable with her power and isn’t paying attn to the little things anymore (like controlling the bleeping cameras). Chris can afford to make a gaffe and blame it on her. But if she’s more caught up in planning her next media/politico meet and greet, it’s no surprise she made a STUPID, STUPID mistake. It’s a problem throughout Washington journalism.

  1. […] Besides being taunted by audience members at a Hillary Clinton forum, Chris Matthews is also feeling the heat inside MSNBC. After yesterday’s live airing of him saying “shit” on-air (when, it appears, he thought they weren’t yet back from commercial), Chris reportedly wants the blame to fall on his exec producer, Tammy Haddad — so much so that he wants her out the door, says Big Head DC. Hey Chrissy old boy, even if you blame her… you’re the one who said it! You’ve worked in TV long enough to know that technical problems can happen. But then again, you’re an ass, so you probably don’t care.

So…has Matthews gotten so full of himself that he can now blame someone else for what comes out of HIS mouth?

So he was caught off-guard when the camera(s) came back on…big deal, it’s a live show and things like this happen. Maybe taping it on a “delay” will solve his potty-mouth problem?

Seems to me, there is more involved than just a camera snafu.

It’s shocking to me that Chris has pulled a power play on Haddad at this point. But, all in all, he must be fuming that Tim Russert is making him change offices; and now he’s taking it out on the innocents.

Ex Prods don’t control cameras, the technical director does. Many don’t even sit in the booth for routine programs. In any event, all of us who have worked on camera know that you must always, repeat, always assume the mic is on. In this case, that was the culprit, not the camera, the mic was on! He’s at fault and should give way to some one more talented and with better pipes (voice).
    IMHO

Tammy rules the cable dial. She’s a DC institution and the best EP Matthews could ever hope for. Anyone who’s worked with her knows she’s a total pro. She almost single handedly revamped and retooled MSNBC’s political programming and they’re beating CNN in terms of coverage and breaking news. She was also the smart one to get Keith onto the Election Night coverage team.

I agree that Tammy’s talents are unmatched. But Chris is a man who is shaken. Who knows why? He lets Russert get under his skin… He feels the need to preen… He touts his ego… Tammy has tousled with other male egos in this business — and lost.

So, we live in a hyper-sensitive society that can’t bear to hear the word ’shit’ on CABLE television? Someone has to be fired for THAT? You people are freakin nuts! She and Dan Abrams should be fired for airing those stupid entertainment segments ad nauseum in every news program, and the prison “lock-up” segments. I change the channel every single time those come on and can’t imagine who the morons are that watch them.

It doesn’t matter to me whether she’s fired or he’s fired.

But if he’s trying to have her fired because he said shit on the air, he’s a serious jerk.

It is a matter of standard broadcast protocol to watch your mouth anywhere near a microphone. Any time you count on it being dead when it’s supposed to be, you’re going to to screw up and it’s no one’s fault but yours. Complaining that your didn’t get the flag up for a camera being on is an issue, but if you’re the idiot that said shit, you’re an idiot.

Think about all the times people have been captured in situations exactly like this by a mike that was not supposed to be on, from Ronald Reagan to George H.W. Bush to George Bush and any number of others across party lines. You don’t hear of many people who do broadcasting for a living getting caught. That’s because it’s their business.

Matthews ought to wait until he finds a better reason than his own stupidity..

Uh, don’t you people know that the PRODUCER is in charge of camera shots, and commercials… they sit in a little room and control all aspects of the show..

It is obvious Chris M. is in an arguement with someone via his earpiece/microphone… most likely the control room/producer… normally, the newsanchor is given a small countdown to when the commercial break is over…

In this case, it would seem that he was given no countdown, instead the producer chose to do a quickpull back from commercial in order to make a diss on Chris M… which would explain why Chris would be pissed at her, and why he would blame her for “shit” actually going on air… because ultimately, no matter what is said on Chris’s show.. he pays this woman hundreds of thousands per year to catch these things… also to present him in a “good” way… she did neither in this instance.

so don’t call him sexist, call her a lousy producer.. because if it was a man, he would be out the door too.. especially if the producer is arguing with the host of the show..

The move, which Haddad is claiming she’s happy about, comes just a couple of months after she was removed as the top producer on Chris Matthews‘ Hardball. She and Matthews had a much publicized falling out over the summer after Matthews was caught again swearing on-air. After she left Hardball, she said she was happy to be taking on a managerial role over all political projects at MSNBC. […]
