From DC Style:
If you’ve been reading my musings, you probably know by now I’m attracted - like moth to flame - to a nearly extinct D.C. species: trendy hotspots named after bugs (Fly, Firefly, Mantis, Dragonfly …
.
Well, this weekend, another one bites the dust: Dragonfly. Yes. Our little 1960-ish Hong Kong-style lounge is closing. For good.
“A long long time ago,
I can still remember how that music used to make me smile.
And I knew if I had my chance that I could make those people dance (and maybe they’d be happy for a while).”In a few months, a new lounge lizard will hatch from Dragonfly’s cocoon (under new management). I could fill you in on the buzz, but I don’t want to ruin the surprise (or do i?).
What’s important to know now is that it’s time to get off your perch, spread your wings and sail on — to 1215 Connecticut Ave., NW — for sushi, sake and stories.
If you’re good, I’ll even tell you about the night I spent in the DJ booth.
“So bye-bye, miss Dragonfly
Drove my bevy to the levee,
But the chablis was (too) dry.
And them good old boys were drinkin’ sake and rye
Singin’, “this’ll be the day that I die …
This’ll be the day that I die.”The official closing festivities begin after work on Friday … and will continue Saturday @ 7 through Sunday morning.
