She usually plays it pretty safe, but we’ve heard that WaPo’s ombudsman has a special critique prepared for Sunday regarding a recent outlook piece by lawyer Victoria Toensing, which was published just before the Scooter Libby jurors went into deliberation.
The Post has received many complaints that Toensing, an assistant deputy attorney general in the Reagan administration, used the paper to do her bidding on behalf of Libby. Her editors failed to note that she was seated at the defense lawyers’ table during sessions of the trial. She’s also friends with Barbara Comstock, who has played a role in Libby’s defense fund and has managed P.R. on his behalf. They’ve even done a book tour together.
Deborah Howell is apparently aching to shed some light on the missing aspects of the story.
