Yes, kids, the votes have been tallied. You sent in hundreds of thousands of requests. You begged and pleaded for us to “pick me, pick me.”
And now, the wait it over.
We at Big Head Rob are excited to announce the male winner’s of the annual Big Head Rob Hottest Media Types Contest. (Hold tight, ladies will come second — isn’t that how it always works…
Drumroll please.
In a landslide, in the hottest male on-air category, MSNBC’s David Shuster pulls out the win. He graciously offered to let us link to our recent interview with him in celebration of his sexiness. Read it if you dare.
But — don’t stop there — the awards keep coming. For hottest male off-air, you selected none other than…
Andrew Noyes, senior writer for the National Journal’s Tech Daily. Let’s make some noise, folks, because Andrew sat down for an exclusive Big Head Rob Interview upon learning the hot, hot news:
How many suits do you own? Enough to get me through the week.
What word do you routinely misspell? Condoleezza, Virginia, amendment, prosecute.
Did you see Brokeback Mountain? Yes. The cinematography was remarkable.
Did you see The Da Vinci Code? No, nor did I read the book. Tom Hanks make me woozy. But when the entire room of undergrads I was teaching last semester said they read it, I felt like a slacker.
What’s the name of your cell phone ring? “Latin.” It should be called “Answer Me Now, Dammit.”
What time did you get up this morning? 6:45 with the alarm; 7:36 the second time.
When did you last cry and why? It might have been the series finale of Seinfeld, but I can’t be certain.
Which of the seven deadly sins are you? If I have to pick one, it’s probably “lust.” I’d also like to align myself with a few of the Seven Holy Virtues — “diligence,” “kindness” and “humility.”
Beach, city or country? Weekdays in the city, weekends at the beach (if I had my way). I grew up in the sticks — a nice place to visit but never ask me to live there.
Would you say you’re cute? Pretty? Hot? Beautiful? See above reference to “humility.”
What color is your bathroom? I see it for 10 minutes a day. I have no idea.
How many e-mails do you receive a day, roughly? Sometimes hundreds, but considerably less when Congress is on recess.
What’s your opinion of New York City? I love N.Y.C. Several friends have deserted D.C. for the Big Apple so I need to visit more often.
What’s your favorite letter? It’s not a letter, but I identify with the “@” symbol. It’s how I sign my e-mails and I collect “@” tchotchkies.
What single person played the biggest role / had the biggest influence
on your journalism career? My first hometown newspaper editor who took a risk by hiring an ambitious 15-year-old rookie reporter.
Have you ever downloaded a podcast? If so, which one? Shhh! I’ve downloaded a few bootlegs of This American Life, a radio show that features some of the best contemporary essayists on Earth.
Who’s your all-time favorite American Idol candidate? Hands down: Frenchie Davis.
When’s the last time you volunteered? Where? I’m embarrassed to admit it has been a while. I promise I’ll do better.
Who is your favorite active journalist? I admire too many to name just one.
What did you have for breakfast? A protein bar, two cups of coffee and some sliced fruit.
What’s your favorite item of clothing? I have several fitted dress shirts and two pair of slacks that I can’t live without.
What one toiletry item could you not live without? Extra-strong hair gel. Daily commutes on a Honda scooter are hell for chic coiffure.
If you could have one superpower, which one would it be? When I was little, I used to try to stir up magic with a crossed-arm blink like Barbara Eden on “I Dream of Jeanie.” I secretly still do that periodically. Maybe it’ll work someday.
Better role model: GIJoe? Barbie? G.I. Joe. Camouflage is making a comeback.
Finally, each Big Head Rob Interview subject is asked to contribute a sentence describing his or her appreciation for/distaste of Big Head Rob: I’m thankful for Big Head Rob’s sardonic wit and daily musings on media and culture.
Congrats, Mr. Andrew Noyes and Mr. David Shuster. You are Big Head-tastic. Stay tuned for the ladies…
