Will Katie Couric join CBS News? If articles that viewers are growing tired of the perennially perky host hold any grain of truth, then my bet would be yeppers. CBS News always chooses “unique” paths that have already run their course at other networks. The constantly revamped CBS morning show is proof enough of that. And think about Katie’s old pal Bryant Gumble’s miserable failure of a show with the Eye network. The “edgy” additions to 60 Minutes have also been disappointing. (I just don’t care if houses are getting bigger, Morley Safer — tell me about something I can’t see with my own two eyes!).
Newsday reports today that “discussions between Katie Couric and CBS have begun again, though Couric - also once again - has still made no decision whether to leave Today after her contract expires in May.”
She’ll leave. She’ll get lots of money at CBS. She’ll stick around through a contract. Then, she’ll retire to spend more times with her kids, quickly tire of that, and comeback to TV with Access Hollywood.
You want numbers? Give me a show, CBS!
P.S. When is Andy Rooney going to retire? Please place your bets below.
